Approved BMW Repair Center - Pointless

Good Day Fanatics,

I cannot understand whats the point of sending a BMW to an Approved BMW Repair center - As based on comments the vehicle value is depreciated anyway.

This weekend I accompanied a friend to BMW for a evaluation and Trade-in inquiry on a 2014 F30 320d Msport...

The consultant disclosed the vehicle was estimated at R273k trade value and Resale R 315k
BMW best Trade in was R225k based on the comments on the vehicle

Repairs done were as follows:
1. Mag Rim Repair
2. Side sill was replaced and front bumper painted due to stone chips

The vehicle wasn't in any accidents, has 85k on the clock with a remaining year left on motor plan and is in pristine condition.

BMW could not offer more due to comments even thou we gave them the itemized repair center invoice.

Whats the point of giving your vehicle to a Approved BMW repair center that's going to add comments and devalue the car?
One might as well give it to another reputable panel shop probably be cheaper on your insurance and you don't get comments on the vehicle.

Further more Inquiry on extended MP

We were offered the following:

With 15k left on current motor plan we can extend it now for another 20k/kms at the cost of R8k which I though was reasonable until they explained it will expire at 105k/kms.

I couldn't understand this , they explained if taken now it comes into immediate effect and counts from current mileage for next 20k, however if taken closer to the 100k/kms mark it will cost around R20k to add on..

This is a rip off as you end up paying twice for the 15k you already covered for or in essence you actually paying R8k for the extra 5k/kms if taken now at current mileage.

Its seems BMW wants to just rip people off once they purchase a BMW even if they want to continue with the brand.

That isn't how motorplan extensions are supposed to work. You get a number of options to choose from which are combinations of time and mileage at different price points. Best bet is to do this via the owners circle website. The extension kicks in from the expiry of the 5/100000 plan. I've done this twice.

As for ARC, I've had a mate trade in his 320i about 3 months back with actual accident damage and comment and he got trade value for the car. I guess it depends on the dealer too. Regardless of this though, ARC quality of work leaves much to be desired in many cases. One of the members on here had to have his wife's mini re-sprayed 3x due to obvious and serious paint defects. I think there are better repairers out there than some of the ARCs.

The major premise of using an ARC is to preserve motorplan in the case of accident history. Sure, you could have the damage repaired at a cheaper panel-shop and not inform BMW, but that's quite a big risk in my opinion.

As for the trade-in value, I agree that it could be just that specific dealer which is trying to capitalise on the 'motorplan comment' without being pragmatic, especially if the comment is simply for very minor stuff. I would shop around for different options.

Its the same reason when you try to sell a high spec car they will tell you "We dont pay extra for options, sorry"

Its all about the DOLL-HAIRS!

Sales tactics to increase their bottom line, as simple as that. I can bring up countless examples of this, most recent:

Me: Cool, can I get cash discount
BMW: No sorry sir, you can only get discount if you finance, because thats how we make your money.
Me 10min later to different consultant: How much discount can I get if I finance the car?
BMW: Oh sorry sir, we can only give discount on cash purchases.

Lol - much the same story with price and valuations.

Ask for a discount on almost any model on the floor and there's a long story why they won't discount too much. E.g. Car has lots of extras, this diesel motors are rare, not many come with sport packages, some MP left, white cars are in demand, etc, etc.

Now, try to trade in the very same car and when you hear the ludicrous value, it's a different story. E.g. We've got too much stock of this model, the extra's don't add much value, not enough MP left, nobody wants a white car, etc, etc.

My favorite is how they tell you they had a cracker of a month. Couldn't get enough stock bla bla bla. Do they think none of us read the newspapers ?
With the current economic climate, new car sales have slowed down drastically, and used sales are doing a bit better.
Shop around. If the car is neat, you will get trade. That's why they call it trade value right ?

Best cars in the world when they sell them to us, but worse cars in the world when you try sell them back.
ARC is only good for keeping motorplan. Workmanship I don't think was very good.
If repaired elsewhere, you run the risk of BMW finding out and losing MP, but you also might not get any comments on the car.

Yeah - The annoying thing is this car will go back on the floor between R300k to R315k with just an auto valet... Dealer makes R80k +.

I have advised the friend to try another BMW dealer as well as another Brand to compare.

Would love to take one for a test drive to another dealer for a trade in valuation....
