Anyone add a turbo charger or supercharger to E90 320i ?

i would guess with that power to weight ratio you would be lucky to get 8.9 i would think it should sit at about 9.5

what year is yours? Cause on 2007/8 they changed engines for a bit more power

9 Seconds claimed for the 2005/6 320i

Edit: Changed year model

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but this in relation to performance, so I might as well post it here without starting a new thread. I've owned my E90 for a little over 2 months now and I've observed something that I don't think is normal. If I fill my tank to 1/4 full, I seem to lose like 30-40% of my power. If I leave 30-40km left according to the computer, the car feels far more nimble, acceleration is clearly faster. But if I just add R100 worth of petrol, that thrust goes away. It's like the momentum fades very quickly once I've put my foot down.

Is this supposed to be normal ? Would adding R100 worth of petrol really make that much of a difference because it feels like a BIG difference. Is something wrong ? Should I have the car diagnosed by BMW technicians ? I don't recall my 140i Toyota Corolla losing so much power after fulling up the tank. My tank is only 1/4 full and it feels like the throttle response has been reduced a lot. Those more knowledgeable, please chime in . Thanks.

The only other thing that bothered me last time I put petrol in was the car went into a limp mode according to my brother. Basically on pull off (as soon as petrol had been put into the car) once I floored the accelerator there was a 3-4 second lag where there was basically no power and after this it started to increase. This hasn't happened much but he tells me that limp mode means that there is something wrong.

I just really want to know about the petrol affecting speed. Has anyone experienced this ? Or does my car have an issue that needs fixing ?

the weight of petrol in an F1 car makes a difference because it weighs 500kg... there is no way you should feel a difference...
when i fill up i feel like i have more power i think it is either the new fuel has more octane or its just in mu head :)
im not sure what the problem might be...

So then you reckon I should have a diagnostic test done ? Because I was telling my brother yesterday and he doesn't know either.

you can do that but i would also try see if its not maybe something else that is causing it i know my car feels very sluggish in hot weather try fill your tank the same all the time and see if it still feels sluggish some times... may just be that is is something else that caused it and you just happened to fill your tank...

It could be. It's just that I noticed very clearly when I had very little petrol in the tank that my acceleration was much quicker. I don't think this is all in my mind. Because as soon as I put some petrol in throttle response is MUCH slower. The actual response is just taken down 2 notches. The car feels sluggish after putting in fuel.

I hope BMW can find out what would be causing this.

Went to BMW, the guy told me to make an appointment to have the car tested for any irregularities. He said that it might be a software upgrade that needs to be done.

How much does a spare wheel/tire usually weigh ? If I just get a standard from BMW ? Because I've heard from so many people that run-flats are heavier than normal tires. So if I had to get normal tires, wouldn't the reduction in weight be lost when the spare wheel goes in ? Perhaps it's heavier with the spare wheel. I'm trying to add as little weight to the car as possible. Just added in sub, box weighs in at around 15 kgs, with driver and amp that's around 20kgs.

Bump...but only becoz I upgraded - yes I said it... upgraded...from an e46 320i to an e90 320i and including the 18' wheels, performance wise I'm not missing much. Xcede says that with remapping I should get slightly better performance than the 125 kW / 210 NM from the I6...the trip down to Dbn at the end of the month for family vacation...think luggage and lots of overtaking...will help me decide if I need to modify.

Bump again...see the feedback below from Chiplogic...what are thoughts around the validity of the claims made wrt the gains?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if one can add a turbo charger or supercharger kit to an E90 320i. A few questions then to those more knowledgeable. If one had to do this, would it reduce the engine lifespan ? Will the car still be safe and reliable ?

Second question, has anyone on this forum added a turbo or supercharger to their E90 ? Impressions. Third, what will the costs be involved ? I took my brother for a spin in the car and in 2nd gear and up, it felt really, really slow. I mean, I don't know if there is something wrong or if the 320i just naturally is slow, but it took a heck of a long time to gain speed. Overtaking speed was hilarious, in a bad way. Air-con was off but perhaps it was the added weight of my brother.

Do other 320i owners have similar experiences ?

Finally, (a really dumb question) do different fuel types really affect performance ? I've been told to put in premium unleaded in my E90 320i but most of the petrol stations I've been to only have regular unleaded. Does it really make an impact ? Must I change my fuel ?

Thanks.

Hi there
I have put remote turbo one my .
