Annoying rattles

SO yesterday I stop at the guy fixing silencers etc on the sidewalk. I thought lemme drive up his ramps and go check what those annoying rattles were.

So what I found was the alluminium sump protective thing was loose and the nuts in the cross bar was stripped. The one screw at the front was also stripped. So the guy drilled the holes on the crossbar through so that a nut and bolt could be used. He then brazed the nuts onto the cross bar so that the screw can go in from bottom up.

Then we also found one of the exhaust mounting points were a bit loose which would also rattle. He warmed it up a bit and bent the bracket slightly so it would fit tighter.

So now I still have that common issue I allways hear people talk about. The rattling of that rear inner brake pad. As in the pic I can move the pad at green arrow up and down as per red arrow. Is`nt there suppost to be a spring or something as in front? SOmeone told me they use double sided tape to make it stick. I`m sure all that heat will kill the tape in a few days. Some say they use some coppaslip. I saw in the Bentley manual they spray some anti squeek stuff and all the pad points that touch the calipre. Isnt there a more permanent solution?

Do you have the anti-rattle clips for the calliper? Or is it just not fitted in the pic?

Sorry no its not fitted. But there`s only the 1 in front. Nothing keeps the pad at the back in it`s place.

By saying the pad in the back I take it that your referring to the pad that's grips the inner side on the brake rotor? .... That pad is held in place by a metal piece that clips onto the calliper piston. I think that piece is causing the rattling. Had the same problem on my old 328 when I fitted ferroda pads. Switched to OEM and the rattle stopped.

Yes the pad on the inner side. Yes I remember the metal piece that clips into piston. I would say the metal is not fitting in nice and tight as I can wiggle the pad up and down as indicated by the red arrow. I suppose will have to take them off and check again.

Try and see if you can't maybe stretch the metal clip so that the jaws are more wider apart and grips more firm onto the calliper.

Yes I`m planning to do that. By the way I realise now that I fitted those crappy BBC brake pads. And Fritz mentioned today that the BBC pads are really crap. No wonder it sqeeks 80% of times I hit the brakes. I cant remember now if it even had the metal clips on. Will have to seen soon.
