ANGEL EYES

Following a large number of people asking for angel eyes for their cars, i have decided to post a thread about what can be done.

basically, you can get angel eyes for all BMW cars and SUV.

there are three types of angel eyes:

1. the oem ones are just an optic rod that transmits light and has an LED bulb or halogen bulb as its source. you can change the halogen one to LED or the led one to a brighter LED one. this is an example of the LED bulb

PRICING: THE LED BULBS START FROM ABOUT R450

2. the ccfl ones are good in terms of brightness but is powered through ballasts and just another part that could fail. this is an example of a CCFL kit.

PRICING: THE CCFL KITS START FROM ABOUT R500

3. the led rings consist of small SMD LEDs on a ring of circuit board. the are the best but cost a little more than the CCFL ones. they have a longer design life as well. but they do not look so good up close due to having spaces between consecutive LEDs. they need a transparent cover over it with ridges to make the light look as though it is one continuous stream. this is an example of LED ring kit.

vsomai, I have installed LEDs on my E39 facelift and the one side blew. So I fitted the stock lights back. The LEDs were supplied by Electromann and are the same product I could have gotten from Violet Electronics.

I paid R450.00 for the set.

What set would you recommend instead of the one I bought? I don't want to keep replacing these things...

Thanks
