Amber Transmission(Gearbox) light

Feedback:

So this morning I took the car in at Cedar Isle. The chief Mechanic said there is definately something wrong with the Gearbox. Diagnostic shows that the 4 & 5 gears are worn out. Therefore they are going to send the jobcard to BMW then have them approve then will call me in and then they can give me a new Gearbox. Also, they need to remove something which cools down the Gearbox and send it away for cleaning cause if the fit the gearbox on this "thing" without being cleaned it would contaminate the Gearbox.

I'm relieved!

No need to be scared..... have it serviced and checked if the light comes on and not turn a blind eye on it, then all will be fine

Naruto is doing the right thing and asks what to do....

Both auto and manual 'boxes can break. I had a manual 'box that stripped all the syncro's. At least with an auto you don't have to replace the clutch every 80k km's.:thumbdo:

Rolf wouldn't software also play some role in maybe making the clutch go quicker?

Let's say the car is pushing 135kw @ 460Nm stock then we add software and all other hardware mods and the car pushes 150kw @600Nm. Wouldn't this put strain on the Clutch?

of course it puts strain on the clutch!!!

If we do a 330d with manual transmission we upgrade the clutch as well to performance clutch.....

Same should be done if you do a 320d manual!

Yeppers... however, we get the latest software updated (ECU and A/T gearbox) before we start working on the car (high performance conversions only, or if customers requests software update)

And the Jo'burg traffic doesn't help.:thumbdo: Stop-go, stop-go all the time.
I don't dispute the fact that I am a spirited driver.

Cape Town has become the same, if not worse when it comes to traffic

Thats one of the reasons why I do prefer auto boxes in my cars

My MP was expired when the box started giving problems, so i took it to an independent garage of which the name i will not mention. But the outcome was good. I had it rebuilt at a cost of R24500 and it was good after that.

shouldn't the cars software be up to date automatically if the cars under MP or just off MP?..or is this another area dealers neglect?

Good luck with the box swap Naruto...luckily it was picked up befor MP expired..gues what goes on a car is to an extent all luck..whats your current mileage?
