Alternator Voltage Regulator E46 320d 2005

So the car's been starting heavily and then not starting.
Checked my 4 month old battery out. No problems.

Friend put the multi meter on, says it's the regulator.

Tips on a fix for this? Or estimates on costs?

Do you have a Bosch or a Valeo alternator?
Easy fix.
Remove fan shroud.
Remove airbox
Remove serpentine belt
Remove Alternator
Replace voltage regulator at the back of the alternator
Have it tested just to be sure
Refit in reverse
The regulator is quite expensive though.:thumbs:

Thanks for the reply - have the option to book it in with a mechanic - to actually check on that brand name

And then take it from there.

hey guys have the same same problem one morning started my car heard a different sound switched off the car started again nothing happened my bmw 320d e46 let me down when I was suppose to go to work okay next up got a new battery and put it the next day went to work but the funny thing thee battery symbol was still on went to work and back. On saturday morning as I was coming from work the car showed me a triangle sign and ABS and seat belt sign and then cut of my radio and front lights then I was stuck. guys what is it help me some are saying its my alternator not charging my battery. if it is how much is a new alternator. please answer . kenneth here

Cheaper regulator is the Mobiletron for the BOSCH alternators

Can be found at any Motolek store R350 - R450

Your regulator is overcharging the system so dont use the car till you get a New regulator fitted. You might damage more electronics or blow up the battery.
