Good day Guys,

Im new here and new to BMW only owning my 2005 320d e90 now for 4 months
But im having a big problem. Mechanics can't seem to find the problem so hoping this is my next best bet.

Lets start from the beginning, 4 months ago.

My car drove fine for just over a month, then out of no where the car went into a gearbox limp mode, aswell as the tire sensor, cruise control and battery warning light came on.

Took it in got everything checked battery was giving low voltage so put in a new battery and also serviced the gearbox, to be on the safe side as the mechanic said there was a jerk so it should need a service.

Drove the car for 2 months then same thing happend again, so i pulled over switched off and started the car, everything was fine, went another week it happend again, then the 3rd time it happend my engine shut off.It refused to start and just swings showing a "Red gearbox light, yellow cruise control and tire sensor"

The car was at BMW they recon to replace the gearbox but they cant seem to read the computer box.

Took the car to another mechanic, he saw that there was power going out the recoils but not back in, so he replaced both recoils, still did not work then the about 2 weeks later the glow plugs showed that two was working then non, he replaced those and the car started and ran for a day then the same problem.

The mechanic says the car starts sometimes and runs for 20mins then the same problem occurs.
he also says that he cant seem to read the ECU.
He dose not know whats wrong and has now towed my car to a 3rd mechanic.

So if anyone has the slightest idea what could be wrong please i could use the help.

Yoh... sounds like a headache. Im new to auto transmission myself but I can't imagine an issue on the gearbox would lead to a no start from the engine.
Do you have a diagnostics report?
With these cars you really need to find out what it thinks is wrong before you go replacing and servicing things.
There are some very clued up and helpful guys in the vendors section of this forum. Maybe contact one of them most convenient for you and see if they can assist you.

I'm not quite sure what the codes where that the mechanic found.

He just said to me that power was going out and not returning.
And that the one recoil was getting hot that is why he replaced both.
the the next error was the glow plugs.

My car is at the 3rd mechanic (a BMW Specialist) he reckons that the alternator is not working properly, that's why when I put the new battery in it was fine, and he says if he charges the battery it then seems to start. so he says the low voltage is causing all the errors to throw up.

So he sending the alternator away to get fixed and them to re test it when it returns.

Hey bud, also have them check the fuse holder thing that sits on top of the battery. they need to test each fuse in there... (sorry not sure what the correct name for it is...) This was a huge problem with my 06 320d... Hope you come right...

Before you continue spending more money on the car, get the mechanic to give you a report of the error codes.
