Alternator replacement 135i

Hey guys.

I had a problem with my car not charging while driving and it is currently in at the workshop.

The alternator has taken a shit :thumbdo:

I have been told that mine can't be saved and I will have to get a new one, BMW seems to be the only people that stock these.

I do have a aftermarket warranty but the warranty covers such a small amount according to their cover amounts.
Before I make a decision does anyone know of a place that sells re manufactured alternators for these cars with a warranty? (needs to be minimum 12months for the warranty to cover their portion of the amount from what I understand).

Thank you.

Try Goldwagen or Incomex ?

Will call them both now to see.

Whats the price at BMW?

Somewhere around R14800, which I think is madness! But I do understand that it is a BMW and this is the cost of these things. Would just like to come closer to what the warranty covers.

I think try Bosch Car Service Centre, they should stock reman units.

BMW will not repair these - they can only replace.

Just an update.

I have called 99% of the companies that stock parts for BMW and none seem to have the alternator in stock, used or new.

For future people looking -
The 2011(other models as well I am sure) BMW E82 has a Valeo Alternator and the balance has a Bosch as I have learnt this morning.
The Valeo is hard to find and last resort is to order from BMW themselves.

I found a company euroautoparts.co.za
Not sure if anyone has used them but they seem to have stock of the alternator. But I am scared to buy from a website I have never heard of.
Anyone used them?

They have a local landline number and are based in Bedforview from what I can see.

I will try them but apparently my car has Valeo unit and not a Bosch.

Car is not at BMW but at a RMI approved garage for the warranty.

Correction they have a PO Box in Bedfordview but actually have an address in Kensington, which is about 5km up the road passed Eastgate heading towards JHB CBD

29 Nile Street
Kensington
Gauteng
2101
South Africa

Not sure if they keep the parts at this place or how they actually operate but let me know and i can go passed there for you as its not far from me.

I see that now.

Thanks Danny, you're a champ! They told me they have for R6xxx new but have to order from overseas and it will take 2 weeks. Not sure its worth the effort to go there if they don't hold stock but thanks for the offer. I will be exploring all options before I pull the trigger.
