Alpina B3 50 years SA edition

Am I the only one that doesn't find these very exciting? They just look a little tacky.

3 bar for an 340i with the Alpina badges and wheels.

I'm a big fan of Alpina, like I'd love an alpina b7. These new ones just don't do it for me. Especially at the premium they going for.

Spot on, it's a joke and this B3 looks like it was modded at AutoStyle.
Those pipes look cheap aftermarket and the wheels have no evolution to the original Alpina (old ones actually looked better with the dish)
I mean would this even sell for the same price as a fully loaded M340i in a sane world 🤣

I like the green colour and the wheels :)
Though, would prefer a beige leather interior to contrast nicely with the green paintwork.

The price is a bit too high though

Price aside, it's a lovely car and having the S58 just adds to the uniqueness of it.

Interesting views on a brand which has not been in SA for almost 2/3 decades.
The B3 is no 340i… The power delivery is far more brutal with the removal of the 340’s single twin to Alpinas 2 smaller mono scroll twins. The iconic lip spoiler , Alpina decals and classic multi spoke alloys are the key features of Alpina.
Just sad to see it compared as a homage to the 333i…. It shares nothing with that classic.

The “silly exhaust” is a titanium system ,Design and on occasion supplied by Akra.

I was not a big fan of these as they looked like an old man’s sleeper but DANG!!!! It goes like 💩 off a shovel and would easily take on the current Gen M3/M4

Interestingly enough, the B3 comes as a touring as well and the engines shared in the B4 too

I would hope something that looks like it was modded with ebay parts and costs 40% more than a brand new M3 (and 107% more than the car it is based on) would be able to do more than just take it on though. This isn't a thinking man's M3 or a sleeper (besides which if you wanted more sedate styling and comfort with more power, you could then just buy an M5 comp which is also somehow cheaper than this...)

I just don't get what this is supposed to be I guess. It feels like the (alternative and more convoluted) answer to a question that has already been answered. Some of AC Schnitzer's F & G series styling also looks like they took inspiration from Autostyle and Ali Express, so maybe it's a German trend?

Classic Alpinas did things BMW was unable or unwilling to do. This makes no sense however you skin it. BMW is going to just dilute this like it has the M badge itself IMHO

I have been debating this video with a lot of friends.
  1. Its BS we don't get the touring versions here! (not like I can afford any, but still). Wagon is SO cool!
  2. Alpina has the 'performance', but can it really be compared to an M car? Not why it was made, surely?
  3. M340d is cool. Thats such a neat family car!
  4. New cars are expensive.
Let me go back to dreaming...

Again, I don't see what the point of the Alpina is at the same price as the M3 comp (or if you're in SA, 35-40% more :ROFLMAO:)
