Alarm going off while driving

Had a good laugh 2 months ago when my wife called to tell me the alarm in her X3 went off while she was driving. Well, this afternoon it happened to me just as I was driving out (fortunately). BMW told me to take the car to a dealership but I wasn't going to sit in traffic looking like a car thief so I turned around and parked it for about 30 mins. Alarm kept going for about 5 mins after I switched the car off and locked it. No amount of button pressing helped so I eventually gave up. Needless to say, problem went away and I drove the car 30 mins later.

Any idea what the issue could be? Has anyone else experienced this?

+1 on aftermarket tracker/alarm system. The SO's Benz has one in from the previous owner which I detest with a passion because now and again it also goes off while driving and then I have to phone Netstar every time to cancel the damn thing.

You phone them and give them your reg and tell them to stop watching you :roflol:
And then wait for a month cos they need a notice Lmao

Hi

It is a tracking device. The same thing happens to my car.

Yup, had it removed yesterday. It has it's own alarm attached to it hence pressing the buttons on the fob has no effect.

The other bad thing about trackers is that they eat up the battery on a car that isn't used every day. Don't ask me how I know that...

Correct. Was getting a lot of 'low battery charge' warnings on startup, even though the battery is 2 months old. I'm 'fortunate' in that my insurer told me I won't get a discount for having a tracking unit as the X3 is a low risk vehicle. Either way, I won't fit one again if I can help it.

People just dont learn. BMW's do not like trackers in them. Battery drain and all funny things happen when they have a tracker.:smashScreen:
