Hi Guys

what is the general repair cost on a aircon compressor that needs to be replace.

mine died

New one with labour are R6000. for a e46 2001 330i.

is That a good price or are they milking me.?

Why are they quoting you on a new one, cant your one be reconditioned?

My steering rack recently packed up and most quoted me a replacing the whole thing with a hefty price tag, I managed to get it reconditioned at a 5th of the price of a new one.

Most Aircon places work on a trade in system where you trade in your old compressor for a "new" (reconditioned) one.


The guys I know are Auto Aircon (Silverton Radiators) in Eastleigh, Edenvale, GP. They are the biggest sellers of trade in units.


I would advise you to take your car to them cos a compressor can die in different ways which could cause consequential losses.

If the seals go and you get oil in the rest of the system you could be in for an expensive ride.

Auto Aircon are the cheapest that ive encountered but still not extremely affordable.Aircons are not cheap by any means.

took my car in for a service and asked the guy to look at my aircon, because of the problems it was giving. I thought it needed a regas but turns out my aircon pump/compressor is packing up. To fix not sure if that is the same as a reconditioned one but he qouted me roughly 3k or there about else he said a new one could go for as much as 6k :thumbdo: so i guess it is the normal price...Did you fix the problem and at what cost???
