Aircon colder on one side

Funny you post here today as I was contemplating this morning visiting an aircon specialist for this very issue.
Haven't found a solution yet but will keep you updated.

The o-rings are probably cracked and it's leaking. The only way to get it fixed properly is to replace the compressor seals and the receiver drier.

Gizmo and others posted very good advice here guys. For everyone else reading this thread regas is not a solution. You're only wasting time and money. People should not be allowed to use the word regas at all.
It is a sealed system and there is a leak. Not maybe, Definitely.
The steel pipes can from cracks with age and heat cycles and like what has been mentioned about the o-rings. Very useful posts on the 1st page.
They will fill your AC gas with a dye and you bring the car back after 2 weeks and they will trace the source of the leak and only replace that part to save you money. The gas is expensive like R800 or something so don't waste money by "regassing"

Seems to be a common fault on e46's. Still haven't gotten around to dealing with this. :fencelook:
I did however do the test and closed the passanger side. Drivers side seemed a touch cooler but not much.

Yes, it is a common problem. Took them less then 5 mins to diagnose mine. It does take a little longer to fix though.
UPDATE: went to Cape Car Electric in CPT. Owner is a very nice guy and sorted me out in 10min. He also suspects a leak somewhere. Topped up the gas, had a temp meter in the vents showing 8.0 - 9.0 C. Result!
Told me to drive the car and check after a month if there is any change. If so then I can just bring the car back and he can check for the leaks with a black light.
So nice having aircon back especially since its 35.0+ in CPT this week.

I told you gas is low. I also know why he told you to drive for a month and see. Somtimes the only problem is that the O rings shrink because the aircon was not used for 6months but when filled up and with circulation of the gas and oil vapour the O rings expand again and no more leaks. Maybe you lucky like me.
This exact thing happend to me and after I filled it up, I made sure I switched the aircon on atleast once a month for 10min and in the further 2 years before I sold my e46 never had problems again

Thanks Iceman! The thing is I rarely, and i mean rarely, use my aircon. 9/10 times my windows are just rolled down. So it may well have been the o-rings.
