Good afternoon all,

2002 E46 Touring 318

Today while I was driving I switch on the aircon and to my surprise only normal warm air coming trough. I had the system checked November and they only indicated that it only needed gas and this was done. System was working fine until today.

When does one know if it is the aircon pump or a leak ? Any reputable company in Pretoria that can assist?

My aircon stopped working, had it checked all fine. Eventual figured out the tensioner pulley's spring seat broke, so no tension on belt, no aircon. Also make sure the all the electronic plugs are plug in on the radiator side of things.

You can take the car to Ross Duncan Auto(midrand based), he will be able to assist.

Thanks for your response. I had a quick look last night and all seems well, except for the pump not engaging? The pulley is spinning but the front part doesn't want to engage. I need to have this checked out!

I have a similar issue except I think mine is on drugs..

The foot Wells only blow hot air.
The front facing air vents ONLY blow cold air
And the top facing dash vents are also hot.

Regardless of what aircon combination setting it's on, the above always happen.

Aircon gas is not a consumable. ...
If you only had it topped up last year without knowing why it shorted gas chances are you have a leak and again the system is below the operating pressure.
I would first have the pressure checked

The ac compressor will not engage if the gas is low again, there is a low-pressure switch that will prevent the ac clutch from kicking in to prevent damage to the compressor.

You must have the system leak-tested. There is a reason that the gas escaped in the first place, if you don't fix the leak, the new gas will just rapidly join the rest of the atmosphere again.

I have been looking for a descent company to repair my aircon on my Seat Ibiza, And i have found the company...

MotorAir - Dwayne O De Freitas - 011 826 2456 | CELL: 079 898 6938

Droped my Ibiza off there today - within 1 hour Dwayne called to advise he has found the problem and how he will go about fixing it.

So far i am impressed, :=):

Thanks for shedding some technical light on this, much appreciated.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, I was told that all is fine by the garage and it only needed to be topped up. I must say I was not impressed with the service I received from these guys on that day.
