Airbag warning light

Hi Guys,

Over the weekend I was doing some cleaning of the car and reached under the passenger seat to feel if there were any 'stuff' laying around that should be removed. I grabbed something, but did not immediately realise that I grabbed, what seems to be, a control unit for the airbag (presumably the side airbag mounted inside the car seat). But with no hard tugging etc, I left it, and checked properly by looking at under the seat.

The 'control unit' came loose from where it is supposed to be mounted and all I did was re-mount it. But as soon as I done this, the airbag warning light came on, on the dash. I checked the unit and no wires are loose of any sort. I handled the unit gently, even when grabbing onto it for the first time, as I did not know what it was and felt the wiring on it aswell.

Will a simple ECU reset - (Disconnect and Reconnect battery) clear this error or do you guys recommend anything else?

Just a simple reset - sounds like you disturbed the control box for the passenger seat "occupancy" sensor. The system runs on very low current and sometimes a good fart can even upset them:rollsmile:

if the fault is not currently present, then reseting with the diagnostic computor will sort it out....don't know if the battery disconnect will help.

In my limited knowledge of the E90, you would need to go to a dealer to have the airbag light reset (or anyone else with the correct BMW diag s/w).

Try a battery disconnect, as far as know once the battery is re-connected the dash does a system check, all warning lights come on and then goes off again.

AFAIK, you cannot reset an airbag light by disconnecting the battery

I will check the error code this evening and post back here, but will see to visit someone I know with a diagnostic tool this weekend.

Only diagnostic tool would removed the error that's if you did not broke the unit coz if you reset it, it will came back on as soon as you start driving.

battery reset will not clear the fault, due to the fact that the stored errors might be needed during an accident investigation, where the battery has long since failed.


BMW INPA or DIS will sort that out for you no problem.

Checked the error code last night on this:

cdi (can't remember the letters exactly) 97

I think the digits though are more specific, because I had another error (warning to show the window washer fluid was low) and this code had the same letters with a different number.

Hope this makes sense?

Ok just done a quick search and the code above is not an error code.

It's a CC-ID 97

Check Control ID that is.

Hi, I know this is a very old post, but I wanted to share my experience with this fault.

I have gotten this error code (CC-ID-97) twice while working on my car. Both times I was working in the footwell of the passenger side of my 2007 335i. I was working on the AC/heater blower, which is up under the passenger dash, and requires removal of trim panels and glove box. There are lots of electrical connections, mostly to the glove box, that need to be removed. After removal, the seat bag warning light will go on and stay on as long as you have a dismantled dash. I can't tell you exactly how this condition is initiated, but I suspect it has something to do with the electrical connections to the glove box or trim panel.

FWIW, I also have a Bavarian Technic scan cable. This is what it shows related to this error:

9413: Airbag

There is very little information on the web about this code. But I can tell you that, once I reassembled the car dashboard, with glovebox and trim panel back in place and reconnected to their wiring harness, I was able to clear the fault and get the airbag/seatbelt idiot lights to go out. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the idiot lights to go out any other way, and the Bav Technic cable (or possibly some other scan tool) was a must.

So if you are having troubles with this fault, I might suggest looking at the electrical connections up under the passenger footwell.
