Hi

My 2009 116i airbag light comes on for few secs then off when someone on passenger side sit down. Also the seatbelt light stay on even if seatbelt is on.

Why is this? And how to fix?

Regards/Thanks

Sounds like a poor connection under the seat. Looking under the seat there's a yellow connector, in order to remove it you need to use a thin flat screwdriver and lift out the black clip on the side of the yellow connector. When it's moved out about 5mm, you can gently pull the yellow plug towards you. Once removed, spray some contact cleaner in both connectors and reinsert it, making sure to push the clip you moved out back in securely.

I can only add to the above statement, so I think Ratslaaf is on the right thought track

Yellow connector under the drivers side
Causes error "Driver side seatbelt tensioner" to come up on diagnostics

If I "wiggle" the connector, then the error goes away, so it is a weak connection within the connector.
If I carelessly vacumm under the drivers seat, I have tripped the airbag fault light
from what I have been told (here-say) that the connector can loose power for about 9 consecutive times without tripping the fault light, but after the 10th time, the light comes on and cannot be reset by any other means other than with a diagnostic computor.

The light will stay on now if you tampered with the plug without disconnecting the battery. Just get one of the members to reset the light for you. That same person can tel you where the fault originated from

im so far from everyone.....im in upington...

any "halfway" decent motorvehicle repair shop should be able to reset the light

plug in the diagnostic computor, run the programme, if no fault currently present, (ie the plug under the seat is making good contact) the just press clear to reset all errors

probably take about 5 minutes

almost every back-yard mechanic has a portable diagnostic computor in their toolbox arsenal nowaday
