I put a BMC in my car about three weeks ago,and it's awesome. My fuel consumption has come down and I can feel there is a difference in the torque, not huge, but I can feel it. Worth every cent I paid.

So did you replace an old dirty OEM filter with it?

The OEM filter was pretty dirty, but not so much that it would cause major performance issues. But it could've done with a good cleaning
The gains in performance though are outweighed by my gains in fuel consumption. Don't get me wrong, I am no racer, but I have given the car a boot full on occasion. When I bought the car my average consumption was 22.2L/100kms, I've gotten it down to 14.1L/100kms now, and that's traffic driving and some foot down driving,so a bit of a balance. But I would recommend at least considering replacing the OEM.

I can understand getting a K&N filter as a long term replacment to save some money as the OEM ones can get expensive. However, from a performance perspective a clean OEM filter does the job just as well. I think we've spend enough time debating the MAF oil issue...

So for the guys claiming huge improvements, how about showing us what your old filter was like before you put in a replacment - 90% of people who claim improvements have just replaced a dirty filter with a clean one.

I doubt you will ever see a HUGE power improvement.

The car does respond better though.

I agree on the performance thing,I don't think it's a huge gain unless you go full induction kit,but my theory on induction kits is that German engineers know what they are doing, and I am not German, so I don't question them...lol.

Your gains are absolutely minimal (unless you drive a 1.4 Citi Golf and drill holes in the airbox......:biglol:)

1.4 Citi Golof with a cone sounds like a Voora.

Best is to use the OEM paper filter and change it every time you change the oil. The filter is something like R120 from the dealers.

An E90 diesel paper filter is like R500+ I dont know where you get the R120 from.... :fencelook:

Well the OP's car is listed as e36 323i in his profile, so with this info in mind I doubt the filter for an e90 diesel will be of much help.

Price for an e46 filter (which happens to be the same filter used on the e36) is around R120 from the dealers.

You know it.

Lity buys his first cab a Citi 1.4, first mod is a Simota from autostyle, rev his way to the drags. Can take on M3's no problem.

Now that is PROPER, doesn't matter HOW you look at it! :praise:

German's know what they are doing with cars, that's why they tend to build the best ones, and to use an old phrase, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

dear lord:cry::nonono:

Methinks the car was getting punished by "potential" buyers who went to look at it.

Just a question on the filters though, the filter I put in was basically a BMC version of the stock one, you don't get flat pad filters for the V8 M3 do you?

The BMC airfilter is a drop in filter as you already know - Ive not seen any flat pad one and Ive kinda researched them before fitting mine.

Re performance increase with the filter on its own Mmm..i cant tell really but maybe im expecting too much and I have a cold air set up complete with larger Macht schnell charge pipes scoops and bmc filters.Ive not remapped, nor have i dynoed but I believe that the ecu is progressive so will adapt to the changed in cold air volumes.

For future ref - I will include some vids from AfE,Macht Schnell and Gruupe M cold air systems - the afe uses a cone filter -interesting viewing

Just as a matter of interest, how much did that setup cost you?

£500 - MS is an american import funnily enough - I thought that it was a german co.
Do you guys have an evolve automotive in SA - they supplied mine

That's still not too bad considering. I am not sure about evolve, sure some of the other guys in the know would be better informed than I am.
