Air box etc cleaning

morning guys

A mate of mine drives 2003 e46 325iM , till recantly they lived on a plot and the air filter and air box is seriously glogged up with sand and so , iam going to replace the air filter , and clean the air box and all the normal goodies , i want to know what would be the best way to clean the throttle body ? i have always used a can of carb cleaner on my previous cars to clean out all the crap , and works like a charm. would you guys advise this for this car ? if not what would be the better alternative?

I use carb cleaner on mine, it seems to work fine. There are products for the job though, but they cost a bit more, and Im not sure on where to get them.
