Also try Optimum clutch, they are around the Top star drive in area, look them up, I send in all my clutches to be built there. A lot for Turbo applications so the clutches are good.
They also do re-strapping of the pressure plate as well as re locating the pivot points on the pressure plate.

What sort of power levels are you looking at putting out?

You would have to get a clutch to suit. There is a very good clutch out there that i am looking at, but like you said, the Rand/ Dollar doesnt help.

Spec St3+. Good for up too 700Horses.

My plan is to go single turbo route locally. Problem is from my research with manual transmissions the dual mass flywheel becomes a problem at high torque applications. They suffer from harmonics due to distortion which results in a false misfire.

if I only had to buy clutch I would have been fime with that but to get a sinle flywheel the price just shot up.

what to do what to do.:yuck:

Hmmmm i would do some research as to what flywheel the 1M uses at it seems to be upto the task of holding the power. (i think it might come from the M3, could be wrong)

So after alot of research most guys running high torque figures are having issues with the Dual mass Flywheel

I'm at a crossroads interms of getting SPEC 3+ and Single mass steel flywheel.

From guys who have done this installation there a quiet a few cases that this setup is a No No for a daily drive. Reason being is that clutch is either on of off which makes traffic driving a nightmare.

Other users said they got use to it.

Will be ordering my clutch and flywheel soon as my current clutch has reached its end of life.:nonono:

Hi Fanatics

I need to replace my clutch on my N54 135i, current mods are software and downpipe, my car is my daily drive so i need something that is easy to drive. I called formula friction they suggested a LUK clutch and the guy says its straight replacement according to him the LUK clutch is stronger than the OEM one - not sure if this is true or not. Car is doing just under 300wkw on software, downpipe and eth. I will not be doing any further performance mods on the car.

There are some fantastic products if you import but the costs are way out. I would like to know who has replaced their clutch on a 135 and what their feedback is?

Thanks in advance for your assistance :ty:

If you drag your car off line then must go for upgraded clutch.

Otherwise i was more than happy with my stock clutch taking the abuse. Done 7000km with software on and total km on clutch was about 120k

Thanks for your feedback :praise:

I have also spoke to Optimum clutch, referred to above by Mohammed, they are able to upgrade the existing clutch to make it much stronger and this comes at a fraction of the price of a new OEM clutch.

Which clutch did you end up going for bro, I know Rowen had a Spec 3+ on his car but didn't last long.

My clutch is also on the way out, but I am considering local options. It seems guys with big torque figures are going for either 330d or 550i clutch with a custom aluminium single mass flywheel. You can get all of this locally for under R20k.

Post meant 70000km with software.

For a daily drive with stock turbos i was more than happy with stock clutch as it never slipped.

What you should look at is how is your torque being delivered. If you hitting maximum torque over small rpm range then you will require more biting power on clutch.

Another stock option is the x35i clutch for the 4x4 model n54. This is a direct fit as per ecs tuning. Only reason i didnt go for this option was because of rand dollar exchange.

Chat to moranor as I believe he was busy looking at restrapping stock clutch plates.

Please dont forget about your dual mass flywheel. They will cause misfire errors when high torque is being applied vs condition of flywheel

Im surprised to here Rowans spec clutch didn't last.
As mine is still running extremely well.
And i know of another 1M thats running the spec 3+ without any issues.

Both of us are also FBO, upgraded turbos.

But i will be honest, they are costly to import.

Do you guys do a lot of standing start launches and at what rpm.

Think this is where clutch takes most abuse. If it doesnt havethat initial bite and torque comes in it will speed up the wear.
