After market fitment of Satnav

Hi - I am proud owner of F10 530d (2011), which I unfortunately spec'd without satnav. I see on some overseas forums that this can be retrofitted - even some of the authorized BMW dealers do this.
BMW SA and a few of the dealers I have spoken to however say that it can't be done.
Any adventurous BMW genius's out there who can and is willing to do this - I will buy all the kit required from the UK.

Don't waste your time with our dealerships for this.

BMW sell retrofit kits for lots of things. the parts are all put together in a ki and listed on reaoloem with part numbers etc.

but when you go to one of the dealers, they will say that no such thing exists, even when guys in UK. US, Singapore, Germany and tons of other places are buying the retrofit kit and fitting and all going well.

for some reason they are very averse to retrofits. perhaps they don't pay for their technicians to be trained and so don't want to touch a retrofit.

if you do manage to get something going in this regard, I would love to know the details, so please post here to update everyone, if not, just me.

I own a F10 and would like rear view camera installed so would have to follow a similar route as you on this Nav.

BTW, I have read that the standard system can play DVDs while the car is stationary. do you have any information? or can clarify?

Usually if BMW say it's not possible you're either asking the wrong guy, or they don't know how. Try and speak directly to the technical manager of the dealership when you ask such questions. Or even ask here on the forum like you've done. Will get a much better more informed response.

People also told me retrofitting Xenons was not possible in my ex 1 series, but I did it with the help of an awesome technical manager who now doesn't work at the dealer anymore unfortunately.

Just get the part number you need. Get the price first to see if it's viable and then speak to the technical manager. They have instructions on how to do these things so I don't see why any dealer can't do it.

Thanks for the responses - I will do as you advised and post details of further developments.
New question - best BMW service centre in Pta East/Sandton - I have used Menlyn Auto for number of years but now see very negative reviews on them (and on Lyndhurst who I have also used in the past).

Love the forum - very helpful to non-techies like me.
