because insurance premiums then increase.
also, the excess is more than half of the repair amount.

Is what I don't understand, what's the point of insurance if you not going to claim from it? Only gonna wait if something big and expensive then you gonna claim? Even then they might make a story to not pay out...

Your premium increase anyways yearly, so...:dunno:

The way I understand it is that one's premiums on newly added vehicles are based on your claim history.
If your history shows claims every year, then ye. If it shows none for 5 years, all the better. You get a no claims bonus as well.
Someone may correct me if I'm incorrect.

Paying R2500 excess for a R5000 claim is not something that makes sense to me.

Luckily we don't have many smaller incidents, so our claims have only been for large sums, and they've paid out every time without hassle.

And your premiums should be decreasing yearly as the value of the vehicle falls.

The way I see t an insurance claim will be 5000 with 2500 excess. BUT if you get a quote yourself, bargain and say it is out your own pocket and can pay cash you will get the repair for 2500.

yeah, that is exactly it.
It may be less trouble to have it repaired out of my own pocket, but it'd be interesting to see the process of claiming, so I shall persevere onward!
