Hey there!

Right, I am in the market for a replacement vehicle since my write off yesterday...I was looking at a few e46 320d. I know the diesels have there pro's and cons but I just wanted to know what kind of milage would be considered to high? or are they like the petrol engines that (if well maintained) go forever? Found an 01 with 250k (quite high) and an 02 with just under 200k while browsing. thanks guys...ur help is much appreciated as always!

I like the diesel too, I would phone around and get quotes for fixes pertaining to the model you have in mind to give you an idea of the cost, if I were you just to test the maintenance waters.
Cost of a turbo for instance.

I was informed that the turbo's on the 2002 and 2003 gave trouble.
Models after that was redesigned.
Search the forum for 320d turbo problems.

Thanks guys. Will be testing an 02 320d this morning. The guys says he has spent a lot of money on her so hopefully that means the turbo has been changed at some point. Will let you know!

My buddy got a 03 330d and last week the central fuel pump packed up.... the Stealers quoted him over 8K but he managed to get an aftermarket one for 2K....

He mentioned the diesels come with 3 fuel pumps.... 1st one is in the tank, the 2nd is the center one which is located under the car and the 3rd in the engine which is the most expensive of them all....

Oh and he's got under 200 000km on the clock when the pump decided to go
