Hi all.

Got quoted R17600 for a second (and final) mororplan extension on my 2012 E90 M3. Car has 65000 km’s On the clock. Just wanted some advice from current and previous owners whether you think it is a fair price for the extension and whether or not you think it’s worth it. Car is running fine from a mechanical point of view.

Thanks :ty:

17k is only for the throttle actuators...

Bearings 40K+...Brakes 10+....etc...

So for the peace of mind....personally I would go for it

he will have to pay for bearing replacement himself unless it goes under plan & will probably get new engine

Thanks for that advice.

Definitely worth the piece of mind. If the bearing had to go will BMW cover it on the motorplan though?

And at what mileage do they do usually do the brakes?

:eek:mgwaiting: have the bearings been done yet ?

I think if you do some research on the forum this has been discussed in length, Motorplan is a bit of a rip off - especially the extension part, but its also dependent on how much you would use it, if you just worried about a failure that might occur then you might be better off going with a warranty or investing said amount and get better benefits.

BMW will replace your motor if bearings should go, I personally would extend MP for another year

So engine bearings are the major area of uncertainty/big risk with the E9x Ms. You don't know their condition at any point and when they are going to fail. (I've done mine at 100,000km...it was a good call, looking at the bearings removed). Also, one of the threads here correctly pointed out that the throttle bottles will give in - i repaired, note not replaced, repaired mine at Tune-Tech(good work).

Given the uncertainty of failure, specifically bearings, spending the 20-25k on preventative maintenance makes sense versus a new engine cost.
Its advised to do the bearings between 80,000km-100,000km.

The motorplan extension will only cover the repair in the event of failure. Therefore you basically covered for the year in case of failure.
In the event that you don't have any failures in the next year, you would still need to do bearings thereafter i.e. between 80,000-100,000km.

My advice get quotes on bearing service; consider bearing service and maybe taking out a motor warranty in addition.

I shouldve clarified the reference to warranty, meant one of these gap cover offered by the likes of Motorite etc....you pay like R400 pm

If I were you I'd extend

R17600 is relatively cheap considering I got quoted R13000 to extend on an E90 2011 320d that had no prior issues. an M3 is considerably more expensive to maintain and more temperamental.
Also for example if all goes well and you only have to claim a normal service and brake pads you would recover most of your money already...

Thank you all for your valued input and advice.

I haven’t done bearings as yet as the mileage is still low and the car has been on Motorplan. Will definitely consider extending for another year based on what has been said and doing the bearings thereafter. My only issue is that the car isn’t being used a lot and so I’m finding it difficult justifying spending R17K for assurance when i’m only doing 5-6 thousand kilometers per year.

Will let you know what happens :) thanks again!

I would never ever ever ever...drive that engine 5-6k a year.....that's too little man:dunnoanymore:

It would give me sleepless night just knowing such a mounter is in my garage...especially with plan and all:smilebounce:

ALWAYS extend warranty. In the past year I've already claimed R20k worth of repairs and I'm about to claim for a timing chain, guides, tensioner and possibly 2 injectors
