Hi Guys,

Newbie here from jhb, I am purchasing a 2006 320D Auto(Sports pack) 87000km's next month, 17Nov to be exact. The vehicle was bought brand new by my father in law, so we are buying it from him. Because they are situated on a farm in Tongaat(Durban), they have other diesel vehicles for the farm use, and he uses 500ppm in the 320D, also the roads to their place is bumpy and gravel.

My question is, should he take the vehicle to BMW as it is still under mp, and get them to do the checks so they wont have any issue when transfering the mp to me. Saves me the hassle to rush and do the transfer of ownership, licensing and change of motorplan all on same day.

2nd question, because he uses 500ppm, and when i get it, i will use 50ppm, should i be concerned about anything ?

Also, any other technical details I need to worry about would be highly appreciated

I have driven the vehicle alot, and I love it. I will be a first time BMW owner as well :)

Thanks

BMW and many other manufacturers of diesel cars recommend low sulfur diesel, ie 50ppm. So it should be fine.

I would check the car out thoroughly seeing as they drove a lot of bumpy gravel roads. BMW will charge you to transfer the MP.

Thanks, Yeah I want them to do a full inspection on it, from mags, tyres to engine the works, I dont want issues with it after I get it. Glad to hear the 500 to 50ppm fuel wont cause an issue.

Thanks

Hey there bud,
To do the motorplan transfer, the car has to go for the inspection tests and think it costs around R1500, stealers all charge different prices, but roughly in the same ball park amount.
Ask you local stealer nicely and I mean, nicely, to please change components that are subject to excessive movement when used on gravel roads a lot.
Other than that, those Diesels are bullet proof. I have a 2005 E90 320d and she is on 160 000kms and still going strong.

Enjoy, they are lovely cars:thumbs:

Hey Guys,

Here is the car.... I changed the number plate so it will now have GP plates. Its with stealers now for change of motorplan and they doing the checks. I asked them to check the fuel consumption as I drove from durban to johannesburg and i average 7.9litres.

Hope they can improve the consumption.
Honestly the car is brilliant, i love it!
Enjoy the pics!

Congrats thats a nice car, I think if he was using 500ppm all this time the injectors may be a bit dirty which could cause the increased consumption, maybe use some injector cleaner. Keep in mind the auto will always use more than a manual. But on highway at 120km/h you can expect about 6l-7l/100 km.

I guess he was using 500ppm, but I complained to bmw so hopefully they will sort it out, will wait to hear what they did and let youll know.... Motorplan expires in 9000km so I need to rape stealers to sort out everything in the car!

Hey Guys....

Front left shock is bent, MP wont cover that, so I need to sort that out, anyone knows what type of shock is the front left ? Also with regard to the fuel consumption, the found out that its over fueling and they looking into it.
