Adaptive driving or just luck. I'm clueless but happy.

Hi. Just some history first. My car was giving me a fuel consumption of 7.4l per 100km. But that was due to traffic and I drive with 3 to 4 adults in the car besides myself. On a best day I use to get 7.2l per 100km. Abtout two weeks ago I went to warm baths for the day. I filled up just after centurion and rest the readinds. I was using 5.5l per 100km. But was driving with just myself and the wife and 2 small kids also was driving 100 to 120km. Drove like that all the way there and back.

That monday I drove to work and it increased to 6.7l per 100km by end of that week. This week I filled up on monday and since then it is using 6.1l per 100km. I can't explain the drop but am loving it.

I can just assume that the vehicle adapted to using less consumption somehow. It shows I can get 1000km to the tank where normally I get 800km.

But now a question does this mean if I have to race with oneone I will first have to race a few times to make it adapt to fast driving or not.

Or maybe I am just crazy. I was also thinking maybe the weather influenced the change.

What u guys think.

Yes it will get stronger every time you floor it. To adapt quicker put car in 4th, 1500rpm then floor to max rpm. Two to three times and you are ready. Many people have been fooled by dyno readings when all it was was ECU adapting.

Are you driving the same, my driving style is different for long distance and urban. If I drive the same for urban it will be like driving miss daisy for a Sunday drive... Lol

Your car will adapt to your style of driving.

wasn't there a thread a few weeks ago on how to reset the "adaptive throttle" in the ECU ?

:fencelook::fencelook:

next question.....from which model onwards was this adaptation included in the software...ie I don't think that my 2001 E39 530d has this feature

Hi.

Will def try the 4th gear trick if I need to race.

Sash my driving style hasn't changed. Nothing changed. And for example this morning I drove a little faster cause I was late and still it stayed on 6.1.

Ralf I'm clueless about technical stuff so won't know a thing but adaptive driving reset. But I have the car so long and only I drive it. So it should of adapted to my driving long ago.

But hey I'm not complaining. I'm loving it.
And just as an fyi my software is the driver specific. I can only imagine if it was the sporty econo mix. I would prob be under 6l per 100km.

I going to dyno and consider going back to sporty econo mix.

I read about the ecu throttle reset now and it seems the answer was 50\50 if it worked or not.

Just another really silly thing.
I am not sure how many of u actually talk to ur cars. I know its silly but I talk to mine. Yes admit me in the physco ward lol. But anyway. In winter when I was driving to work I saw this orange warning light come on. Its like the aircon symbol. I was worried but when I got to work I forgot to google it. Next day same thing. When I googled it. It was a warning for chance of snow or icy roads. I laughed. Everytime it came on I use to tap my dashboard and tell the car don't worry its not going to snow. Lol.

Its funny how many features bmw has. And I am sure that there is a whole lot of hidden features we still need to discover.

The consumption calculator is cumulative though... so if you haven't reset it again since you went away, it's including those 5.5L/100km readings and your current consumption figures (probably still ~7L/100km) and averaging out at ~6L/100km. reset it again and do your daily commute and see if it stays at 6... if it does, that's awesome! :) Then your car probably just needed the long drive to shake off some of the carbon deposits on the valves...
