So this year was not to be. BMW cars #19, 24 and 25 all retired after incidents in the night involving slower traffic.
Car number #20 was 2nd place until 2pm today where it was involved in a dangerous overtake of a Porsche in a lower class. This overtake caused the car to hit the Porsche. The car was then penalized and had to make a 1min 34 second stop for the incident.
Car #20 made the stop and was still able to leave the pit ahead of 3rd place Mercedes but 1 lap later suffered suspension failure due to the incident with the Porsche. The car sat in the pits for 15 minutes as the mechanics replaced the entire front right suspension. The car was then 9th and slowly crawled back to compete for 5th place against the Aston martin #007 car. The BMW looked to pass the Aston as it quickly caught up to sit right behind the ASton on the final lap but due to slower traffic cutting the BMW off the track on the final stretch of the last lap, the BMW car was unable to take 5th place and finished 6th overall.
This is the worst result for BMW since 2009 where BMW manufacturing teams did not partake but a private team finished in 10th with a Z4m running an S50 3.2l engine.
Audi takes their 2nd win at the Nurburgring, stopping BMW from reaching their 20th win.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed it. Let's hope next year we can do better.. I hope the BMW drivers will be more patient with slower traffic and relax. That penalty really cost them the podium and chance at taking the Audi's lead.
