AC Schnitzer Chip no longer MP Friendly

From my understanding since the emission scandal at VW tuning will be banned in the USA. Largely as a result of tuners altering the emissions via tuning, BMW and other manufacturers have spent millions to ensure that their cars pass these tests. And we may say why in SA? Secondly how many posts does one see where someone will buy a 320i and chip it and not buy a 228 I thus reducing the turnover or target figures for sales. And how does BMW sell the car on as an approved used car especially since Schnitzer only provides a 2 year warranty. Remembering that BMW spend huge amounts on software to Optimise the car for reliability, emission targets and power.

I believe tuning has been 'banned' in USA for years. Their emissions laws are very strict and for this reason that there's big disclaimers on many USA based tuning sites stating that their products may only be used on the track.

Some states in the US actually forces manufacturers to offer a 7 or 8 year warranty on components that can affect emissions.

But as with anything, it's a tough measure to enforce. They attempt this by forcing motorists to do yearly emissions testing on all cars manufactured after the regulations came into effect.

I doubt the VW scandal has anything to do with BMWs move to block ACS though

I agree with that. There was a M135i advertised on this forum a few years ago but before that post was a write up on all the mods done to the car. So ok, the car was returned to stock before it was placed on sale but what if something when wrong with the car and bmw would not fix under plan because of something the previous owner did? This is my opinion only so don't bite my head off but to me a car that has been illegally modified is worth nothing.

As an ACS retailer I got the official statement from ACS rather than speculate...

ACS is not out to cause any problems for anyone who uses their products and has always offered to fix any issues that come up with MP because of the the upgrades this is a large component of what you pay for when getting ACS this and the OEM level R&D

This is what changed.
Suspensions, exhausts and visual items there is no issue with.

Performance upgrades will not suspend the warranty or motor plan, however the complete drive train is covered by the ACS warranty for two years, after that the motor plan will not pay for anything that goes wrong on the drive train.
Services and so on is still covered, only the drive train will not be covered, Engine, gearbox and diff. these items will fall under the ACS warranty

So in essence you now have a 2 year warranty on the drivetrain as opposed to the previous 5 year warranty from BMW?

They should just make motorplan an optional extra :hammerhead:

Agreed

I am unsure what the standard Warranty is from BMW on new cars if 5 years then yes you are correct

would be great if MP was an optional extra

Heard that most of these instructions regarding aftermarket suppliers are from BMW SA only. This is in a bid to push more M-performance stock rather than 3rd party since the margin is greater with M performance inventory.
