Is the price reasonable? Does this tyre works well?

i have 19inch csl on my e46 m3. the local wheel alignment "assh*le" messed up and caused my back tyres to self destroy in a matter of a few hundred k's , when i went back to ring his neck he predictably said " you could have hit a pothole or a bad bump in the road causing the alignment to go off so badly " . Anyway , shopped around 4 tyres and almost fell over upon hearing the prices !!!! Are these branded name tyres gold plated??? Anyway a friend of mine who drives an e46 m3 recommended a set of achilles tyres and said a decent tyre for the price!! Was a bit sceptical so i gathered a bit of info on these "achilles" tyres. Surprise surprise , these tyres are actually made by yokohama and have been given some decent reviews by customers on the net , look it up!!
a local dealer had a set at a good price so i tried them out, and guess what , they are not that bad. Obviously don't xpect them to handle like they r nailed to the road , but they seem just as good or slightly better than the set of tyres i had on previously. llook not bad either !!! but seriously for the price , they are not bad. Ps , there are some cheaper tyres than this available and believe you me , they are craaapppp!!!! , not to mention downright dangerous!!!!
have heard falkens are very good for the price, have seen this tyre on quite a few v8 m3's

I went from Conti's (and heavy prayer sessions in every corner) to Bridgestones a few weeks ago and the difference is night and day.

No more understeer, grip grip grip! My dad runs Bridgestones on our GTI's as well and they are the best.

Ps2 is rubbish, had it on my e46, paid 16k for a set, soft and not durable at all, easily prone to bubbles and punctures, it's crap, never ever Michelin again, unless it's the pilot sport 1, that's an epic tyre of note, don't know how good the ps3 is. I now have bridgestone on the 335 and it's not a comfortable as the Michelin on the road but a far better tyre anyday.

OMG... I've put the ps2 on my car already... the noise is really a bit more than the former tyres (bridgestone)...

Now one tire you never hear people complaining about is PS2, apart from price and durability.
But neither of those should be top priorities if your looking for very high performance tires.

Yup, this is a good question with no easy answer.

The SA market is too small for the local SA distributors to stock them all - they decide what are the most popular and they will only import those. What sizes exactly they decide on seems to be a secret.

The only way I found is to ask, sometimes you will be told the truth that a specific size is not imported, other times you will be told that a specific tyre is not manufactured (a lie). I have found that TWT mostly will tell you that a specific size isn't manufactured, and you are an idiot to want such a size.

Sometimes the only option is to import them directly from O/S.

Is it possible to import from overseas? I believe the taxes and duties make it impossible.
The tire industry it seems has locked down this option.

Technically it's possible, but there is a large hassle-factor involved. And it is very expensive.

I'm afraid we have a tyre mafia/cartel system operating in SA that dictates that you buy what they decide, and that keeps prices artificially high, so to maximise their profits.

Sorry but true.

Those are definitely RFT's - now the thing is, I gather those are E46 wheels so probably won't be able to assist the RFT tyres from functioning as RFT's when you have a puncture - needs to have the inner lips on the rim for this to work. Fantastic tyres though, and usually (apparently) hard to find!

ohhhmygod...yes it's E46, and I remember 'RFT' means run-flat tyres ... why also RSC...

It's really a miserable story..Nobody would do the same stupid thing like me...

anybody want to do the exchange with me?? I need the non run-flat 255/35/18...:flyfun:

It's not really a train-smash! Just that you have tyres capable of something the wheels aren't able to help with. RSC is a common marking for most RFT's and the star on the sidewall means that these tyres are BMW approved. Michelin call their RFT system ZP, as in Zero Pressure.

Did the tyre fitment place not tell you about this? Could try and get them to exchange for non-RFT's and they should be able to give you some money back since these are RFT's which are much more costly!

Other alternative, get a set of 18" E90 narrow/wide wheels...
