OK, theres more to this saga......... :thumbdo:
The new mag was fitted all was well. Friday I leave home to take the wife to the movies. on the way there, i feel a bumping noise. I pullover like 1 km from my house and notice nothing.
Thinking that the pressure must be low, I go to the nearest garage to check pressure, only to notice a :argh: RIVET in my front right tyre. 30 mins later, tyre is plugged and I am on my way.
Then on Monday, on my way home from work, I notice a bit of a rough drive, with mild vibration on the steering. I stop at the garage thinking it needs pressure, check all tyres and top up accordingly. Get on my way, and still feel it. Thought to myself, needs balancing and alignment.
Then yesterday on my way to work, it gets worse, pullover, check tyres, all looks well.
Then on my way home, I can feel the car vibrating like crazy. Stop at the garage and the front left tyre pressure is very low. Top it up, and get home.
Puzzled, I exit the car, wondering why the ride is so rought, why the front left lost pressure, when it was the front right that had the puncture.
I stand there for 5 minutes starign at the tyre...........then...............
WHERE THE HECK ARE 3 OF MY WHEEL NUTS (Including 1 lock nut)?
Check the 2 that are on, and they are just finger tight?! WTF?
Nobody touched the tyre or rim. the back left rim was repalced with a new one. Its beyond me. Ofcourse the 3 nuts are nowhere to be seen.
Worst case scenario, I had driven the car 40kms in total and at some point 3 nuts came loose and fell off somewhere.
Check all teh other nuts on the car and guess what?!.........almost all of them were loose.
Leave the car parked exactly where it is, not wanting to warp the rotor/drum. This morning at 6am I drive the wifes car to BMW forsdicks and buy myself 1 regular nut and 1 lock nut with the code for my car.
Total cost R316.57 including VAT
Still short of 1 nut, as they only had stock of 1. SA said its fine to drive it short distances with 1 nut missing. I jack up the car, remove the tyre, everything looks okay. cant tell for certain iof the rotor is warped but notice no visible signs of damage. Fit the rim back on, retighten every nut on all 4 wheels and drive to Sandton Auto. They dont have 1 nut in stock, have to order and will deliver top me later this afternoon.
:flyfun:
OK, any idea if this ordinarily? Can teh nuts just start to loosen over time. What other damage am I looking at. How bad will the balancing and alignment have become since the car was driven with 2 nuts holding a tyre in place (loosley)?
Comments, ideas?
I am still shocked at the whole escapade. Will take the car into BMW latrer this afternoon and have them put it on the lift to inspect suspension components.
