and where can we buy a 335d?

If I was faced with the same decision, it would definitely be the 335i, compare it to the 330d and you're looking at a difference of about 2l/100km. I could live with paying an extra R100–200 a month.

If fuel consumption is a real issue, then you should be looking at the 320d, probably one of the best engines in the range, next to the N54/5.

i think your figures are a bit optimistic. 135i i get between 380 and 400km to a full tank at first click on the pump. if i drive it hard i get around 320 - 350km to a full tank. a 330d i have no idea on but i assume more than 700km to the tank. (3 series tank may be a bit bigger) but the whatever the 330d is a lot more economical. not only R100-R200 extra per month. I would fill up my tank approx twice to every once in the 330d

I get about 400kms from a full tank, daily driving to work and back, lots of stop and go and traffic... on the open road the x35i should get close to 600kms to a tank if driven conseratively...

But if you coming from a stg 3 ST, u used to high fuel consumption...

also a 330d is not going to meet your needs you will probably want a 335i with s/w....

Yep, 3 series is 61l, the 1 series is 53l. If you compare the overall consumption figures for both cars, using those quoted by BMW, the difference is just short of 3l/100km. Yes, my estimate for cost is off because it depends on how much driving you do in a month.

I can't see that either of the above will be worse than the modded ST.

A 330d can also get s/w ... :slap:

Now that you guys are posting 335i consumption figures, just realised that I actually get very similar consumption on my car compared to the 335i .... on the 2.3 ton 4.8i V8 X5

I cannot think that the 335i will use much more fuel than your current car, probably a bit less if driven sensibly. 330d is most certainly a rocket, in particular with the automatic gearbox. Even the 320d is fantastic for daily driving simply because of the torque characteristics!

What in particular did you not like about the 330i? Manual or auto?

my wife has a 135 and gets roughly 400 kms on a tank and she doesnt drive fast

Well, driving slowly or mostly in traffic will do that! Up to speed and cruising things will be a lot better!

fuel consumption, lol

R7000+ pm/repayments, and worrying about R100-R300 differences pm in fueld

lol... Not gonna be 7k :) But anyway, I don't mind paying a bit more in petrol. That's fine but I don't want to end going from say 1k petrol budget to a 3/4k petrol budget. Then it's not worth buying the car but again.. Don't think the car is that bad.

Fuel consumption isn't that big of a deal unless my budget has to go from say 1k to 3k for petrol.

Thanks for all the info guys but looks like the car is the same as mine. The ST has a 55l where the BMW has a 63l tank. So it looks like it will get a bit more KM out of a tank but filling it up is a bit more so..

But like now. I'm doing 15l/100km (think that's the right way around lol) and I can't see the bmw being heavier :)

ps: I would love to see how a 320d will be able to even get close to a ST :) The 320d is good but not that good.

Never use the figures quoted by BMW, they are almost never even close to actual real life figures.

Well that's all I'm waiting for now :) They are busy with my application. If I'm happy with the price then I'll take the car and IF it's really that bad on petrol I'll use it as a weekend car hehe. Think I should do that anyway.

I know that, but it's more accurate to compare two figures quoted from the same source than noting other people's opinions. The quoted figures give you a consistent baseline to work from, whereas the other figures being quoted by drivers has several other variables at play.
