A bit of info before I buy - Please

Hi guys,

Ok I drove in a few BMW the last week. The only one I like is the 335i :)

This is the 2010 model with a single turbo. Really nice car. My main concern is the petrol usage. Currently I drive a Focus ST that is modded to stage 3. Love to car but it's standing at 150 000km and after fitting the pram there's no space in the boot lol.

So... I fill up my tank and get around +-450km on a tank. Bit of city and highway driving. In traffic the car sucks. Highway I get about.

Guys at the office claim I will get about 300km if I drive normal and around 220km if I go insane lol.. I think this is false.

Please advice on this. Should know today at 5pm if I'm joining a new forum permanently hahaha...

you will definately have better consumption on the n55

N55... I would think that's the engine, right lol. I'm brand new to BMW. Always loved the car's but never actually looked to buy one coz they aren't the cheapest cars :)

I worked out that on normal driving I should get about 550/600km on a tank else around 450/500km if I push it

Have you considered (or driven) an E90 LCI 330d.

Howzit bud. Have you tried the diesels? Lots of torque, less fill ups

The last week I have tried:

Kia Optima
BMW 320i
BMW 320d
BMW 330i
and a few other crap cars lol..

And now the 335i. All of the above isn't really for me. The 320d was the best of the lot until I drove the 335i. Exceptional car to say the least.

The 330i sucks. That car is way worse then the 320d. 320d is nice but I want a bit more power and to be honest I don't like the sound of a diesel. Might be cheaper on juice but I'll rather spend an extra few buck a month for petrol to get the sound I want.

I travel about 20km a day to work and back and don't really travel over weekends. I would say I do around 1000-1500km a month. Just don't want to end up paying R700 for a tank petrol and only drive 250km. But don't think the car is that bad.

Yep, diesels = lots of torque
petrol = lots of talk (at the petrol pumps while you're waiting to fill up)

I think that is exaggerated at the best, I get that consumption on my E60 M5,

Yea from the M3 and M5 I would think it's that bad but those aren't cars. That's monsters hahahaha...

I worked this out:

"
225kW @ 5 800r/min, 400Nm at 1300-5000r/min, 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.6 seconds, max speed limited to 250km/h, average fuel consumption of 9.6 litres per 100km
"

So avg. I would assume is bit bad bit good - So say the tank is 65L then:
65/9.6 = 6.77
6.77 * 100 = 677km on a tank.

Pushing it I would say it will go to around +-13/14 then:
65/14 = 4.64
4.64 * 100 = 464km on a tank.

So that's about the same as my Focus then.

335d ?

Is there a 335d??

Anyway, I only tested the 330i. Not the 330d. I think the diesel should be better but I was so disappointed after the 330i I never looked at the 330d lol. I went in to BMW today to buy a 320d and when I walked in there was this 335i lol... So being stupid I took it for a test drive and yea... The extra features got me hahaha... and the power.

I heard the 330d is good but already took the 335i out and loved it so. Just want to know if I should take it and park it and never use it or is the petrol consumption not that bad.

Oh and I have to add. I would say from all these cars:

Kia Optima
BMW 320i
BMW 320d
BMW 330i

I think the BMW320d is first but REALLY close to it is the Kia Optima. That car has so many features it's insane but just lacks the speed.

seeing as you have a stage 3 st i am pretty sure you are going to mod your 335i.

if you were impressed with the 320d then i agree with msm why not look at the 330d if you are concerned about fuel consumption. you dont want to buy a x35i if fuel consumption is an issue to you.

If consumption is an issue, get a 330d, with the power that will pull your nuts in on take off, and consumption thats unbelievable.

If you want the 335d, you wont be dissapointed.

I drive a 320d and have been very happy with it, I drive 45 kms a day in traffic on highway, sometimes crawling on the highway, while at times, knocking the dust of ST's and POLO GTI's, all while getting over 1000kms to a tank.

fuel consumption, lol

R7000+ pm/repayments, and worrying about R100-R300 differences pm in fueld

If I was faced with the same decision, it would definitely be the 335i, compare it to the 330d and you're looking at a difference of about 2l/100km. I could live with paying an extra R100–200 a month.

If fuel consumption is a real issue, then you should be looking at the 320d, probably one of the best engines in the range, next to the N54/5.
