Hi, hope someone might be able to help. I've got a 1995 model 318. The steering pump for the car doesn't sound so healthy. I've been told that the only option is to replace. Is this the case or can these pumps be overhauled? If replacement is my only option, does somebody have a serviceable pump they are willing to sell?

overhauling the pump will give yu a 95% pump and will cost yu 70% of the price.rather look for a second hand good pump or if yu can afford to, buy a new one.save yourself the trouble of having to sit with the same problem in the near future

IMHO the pump can be stripped , checked , reconned and replaced in service , but the effort and money will be a waste . If the pump does seize you can remove it and fit a shorter belt and drive without power steering for a while - did this with my e36 325i-got used to it .Remember a second hand unit will be quite used , not too much life left .( I think e30 pump internals are similar - housing is different -also an option . ) good luck

I replaced power steering pump on my E36 328i recently for 4K :puke:

If possible, overhaul it or buy a new pump. Dont buy 2nd hand because you get different types of pumps and you dont want to end up with the wrong pump ~)
