Who is working on the car?
You stated earlier that you would complete some work here before it is shipped to you.

car purchase and all work is done through carcandyinc - search them on net , the owner has an exceptional passion , he searched and checked various cars for me until he found the best option within my budget. He had it mechanically checked with a full report and then have worked with him on what work i wish to get done, ...very impressed with his passion and service

My only word of guidance would be that you try and keep the car as close to original as possible.
It is rare to find unmolested cars nowadays.

The engine was designed for fuel economy and longevity so trying to get power out of it will not be entirely possible without making the car almost what it was not meant to be which in turn will make it uneconomical.

If you are determined to make the car quicker it may be wise to just remove everything and convert to a 6 cylinder M50/M52/M54.
Bang for buck you will not get better than that.
Keep all the original stuff safe for a later day when you may wish to sell it as an original 318.

If you fit the 333 kit do so provided it is an original plastic kit and not the fiberglass copies as they are ill fitting and also of poor quality.

Just sharing a few thoughts with you and in no way being prescriptive.

I wish you well with your new purchase.

Lovely car bruv!

Congrats on the purchase, it looks to be a good clean example! Love the alpina bits and pieces, I won't lie.
If you ever want to sell em, let me know!

As far as a fast m10 goes, there is a lot you can do to the motor, but reliability is key seeing as you going to daily it. I would do maintenance on the car first, then later on look at mods.
Decide on a build and start collecting the mods in the meantime.

Happy motoring bud

well its yours now haha get used to it...
so NA and a daily...i used to daily a 318i...it was pleasant but not quick at all....this was at the coast..
i mean at a lower budget you could do a branch and exhaust with a cam reprofile and make sure its in good health before obviously...make sure it has good compression on the cylinders...
If it needs rings etc. then you could probably look at doing more...to raise compression and do a more aggressive came and possibly ITBs
Personally...if it were my car...id drive it as is and build up an engine on the side....2.7 M20 or even 3.5 and drop that in a a year or 2 with everything needed...
What i will say is have a good think...think about whether youll keep it forever too..
Make up your mind and stick to it...ive destroyed budgets by moving the goal posts either mid build or after its done...

Howsit mate

Trust you well and safe

Having done quite abit of amateur research seems it would make more sense to do an engine swap both for value for money and effectiveness. I will find someone in RSA to do it for me if I go ahead but what advice can you give me in terms of NA engine swap, what engine ? Estimated costs well as what would be involved.

Car is intended to be used as a daily mainly

Look forward to your ideas as usual

Stay safe

Don't take this personally, but please keep this beaut as original as possible - too many molested E30s around already, by idiots who get carried away - resist the temptation. An E30 like this needs to be appreciated for what it is.

Buy a cheap Golf 5 gti or something if you want something faster to mod.

Just my R0.02.

Hi, you could store your current engine correctly and pop in a e30 325i motor or even a non vanos 325i engine...the easier option would be the M20 obviously...budget is trickier with the older engine as you'd pick it up for whatever you can and probably refresh. That should feel a lot better but if you want more power i guess you could do a 328i motor as well.

If I had to get an e30 one of the options I would look at is a m30b35 with a custom light weight flywheel and adapter plate to run an e90 6 speed box with a 3.64 lsd

Hi Guys , was looking for your wealth of advice. So my build is finally complete and car delivered to Malawi. The engine was changed to an M20B20 with a custom exhaust that sounds phenomenal, however I do find the power of the M20B20 a little lacking. I would like to add some more punch and have been advised to consider a UniQ or Dicktator. I need something relatively simple as mentioned before there is a lack of mechs I can trust with this job here in Malawi so plug n play is the easiest way forward. Credit to carcandyinc for the most professional job 👏
