80000km Service on 2007 320d...Weird Parts to be replaced.

Hi Guys,

Was driving Munich when the service indicator came on and the yellow light on the brakes (2200km to go before service according to cluster) So I phone Pinnacle Auto to confirm, Sue Allen tells me to just bring in the key so she can check wether a service is 'due'

So Friday, from work drive past there, drop the key off and this is the list of things that need to be done...

1. Rear Brakes (Disks & Pads)
2. Oil Service
3. Oil Filter
4. Air Filter
5. Microfilter

All normal up to here right...

Then item nr 6...

6. TURBO INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT!!!

I'm like WTF?? Apprently its routine to have this done at 80000km, they also check the turbo for problems... Thank God for MP... Cant wait for the invoice to see how much that costs.

PS: They offered me a killer deal on a 'Dynamic Edition' which I was sent home with for the weekend...lol But thats another thread all on its own...

Hmmm, maybe a swirl flap related recall? I mean, it might be a problem with the manifold that requires an upgraded part for your car, possibly due to swirl flaps. Ask the mech what it is about.

I'm quite interested in the prices/figures. Last week tuesday I replaced my microfilter myself, no dealers.

Some of the things we must learn to do on our own and save labour cost.

Hi Ricky,

Let me start by calling it what it is... A 3-Series BMW with some cosmetic upgrades, but boy what a difference, in my humble opinion, those make. Even my wife went, 'Wow, thats sexy...' And she is an Audi fanantic like you wont believe.

Exterior:

What I like about it is that the the Carbon Fibre Splitters can be bought seperately, should you hit a curb during parking etc. No removal of whole bumper for a respray for instance. Granted these bits will probably cost you an arm and a leg. I love it in the Space Gray with matching colour wheels, the grills are different in colour to from 2007 model. I love the way it presents a poise of 'get out of my way or I'll eat you' It looks amazing... The lack of Xenons and PDC thou is a bit of a bummer for me.

Interior:

Love it, the seats are softer than my current Sportpack 320d's immediately making them more comfortable. Lumbar support is still electrical. This particular model has the Rain Sensor and Dimming Mirror which I found handy seeing as I drove in the rain at night one eve. The blue stitching on the black seats... :drool: Althou my wife did not like that so much. Black roofliner just adds to the whole sport/compact feel.

Ride & Performance:

This power of this car reminds me of my F/L 330d... It makes you smile every time you stomp on the gas... This particular car has a 6sp, short shift manual box. Driving an Auto, the clutch took a bit of getting used to, but once mastered, she revs to the limiter with ease, and there is power all the way to the redline.

BMW apparently did some tweaks to the Sport Suspension with the facelift, and I must say that the ride is much softer than on my '07 320d Sport. Cornering still feels good and exact, this baby is fitted with 18" Michellin Pilot II Runflats and I can definately say that they grip better than the Pirrellis I currently have on my car.

The fuel economy on this car is amazing to, I averaged 14.6km/lt and I did not stick to any speed limits other than in the urban areas. It was at 17.9km/lt at one stage.

Overall, I would say its a great car, definately more lively and responsive than my current model but that is understanable as this car has a completely different engine and drive train. But I must say that I dont think that its a car for all tastes. You will either love it or hate it... and at the cost of R412 000 there is better BMW's out there.

Will I buy it? Yes, as an upgrade to my current ride. If i owned a M3, M5 or 335i...Definately not!

MP still pays for mine, and the guys here at Pinnacle know that I make full use of mine.. I paid for it, now I want my moneys worth. Will keep you guys posted with the costs.

Another thing to add on the exterior, is that it cames with CF mirror covers and rear CF spoiler

I cannot justify that price tag with cometics. The ride and agility combined with power is what will make me part with my hard-earned cash.

I will pay for an Exclusive Pack with SatNav and DVD as extra. When enjoying my vehicle I hardly even know that there is a Carbon Fibre this or that stuck to the outside.

But i must admit: I love the looks!

On TIS, that is a service item some time in the lifetime of the car. I checked all my invoices and cannot find it listed, nor can I remember that I paid R1000 more for a service somewhere cause they maybe changed it.

I am still convinced to this day that the filter not being replaced by BMW was a big contributing factor in the breakdown of my turbo. I had no idea about this filter till after I did my turbo and did all the reading up etc.

Hindsight is 20/20 vision...

.The newer vortex type oil separator should last the lifetime of the car, I don't think would clog up.
