800 mtre timed and speed

The 1st June 2014 the Vanderbijlpark airfield will be holding 800mtre top speed runs and you can get your speed and time.
I can normally do 1km runs here but because of the speed of some cars expected the distance has been shortened to give safe braking space.
The point of these events is for fanatics to safely enjoy their cars in a controlled environment.
AA rules apply for your own safety so bring along your helmet and long sleeve shirt or jacket.
Guys come for your own enjoyment and not to race to beat another car. There is always someone faster.Race to beat your own time and speed and get more aquainted with your vehicle.
The venue is bare so also bring umbrellas and your picknick basket.I can assure you you will see very fast cars.
Please also see your entrance fee as part helping the poor local community around the airfield. We all should have social responsibility.

Phantom, what is the cost for this event?

What time does it begin and end?

Also, directions to the track?

It's best to get there early 9am or so and lasts till 5pm.I think the last entrance fee was around R80 but will check with the organiser.

Phantom,

Thanks for posting this.

I am keen on arranging a breakfast run to this event. However, please advise the following:

1. Is this a Monthly event?
2. Does it occur on a specific date each month?
3. Is it sanctioned by any authority? Please provide details?
4. What is the entry fee to race?

At this stage, er have events (official) lined up for June, so will have to tackle this in July or August. (As a club)

Thanks

So went to the strip this morning to support two of my friends as well as putting the logging in their cars as only speed was measured on the 800mts.The airstrip uses Travello to measure speed but we like to use the Racechrono as backup and all the info it gives. The guys raced in the opposite direction today and that meant an incline of 6mts over the 800mtre distance.
We took first and second with the BMW doing 258km/h on Travello and 255.4KM/h on Racechrono.
The Nissan bakkie did 252km/h on Travello and 252km/h on the Racechrono.
In the BMW the average satelite detection was 6 and in the bakkie 9 so this is possible why there is a slight variance.
To put the speed in perspective the Lumina crowd were doing between 184 and 186km/h/.
If ever you see this sheeply BMW 318is pull along side you just pull away slowly and smile.Officially the fastest.

Any pics? Maybe next event I will come through
Quite honestly i would not recommend till they sort out the road to the airstrip.Luckily i was picked up to attend and would have been pissed off if i had to drive my shiny car over a kilometer of dirt road.I normally enter on a short 60 mtre road but this was closed because they decided to run in the opposite direction.

Wow!
That 318iS is monsterous! Damn!!! Properly quick!

Would have loved to have made this event, but seeing as there was dirt road driving, maybe its not the worst of things I didnt make it.
