335i vs 330d vs 320d: What to get?

Haven't gone through every comment but in my opinion, I've grown to love the diesel BMW's, I have an E90 320i LCi and I know your struggle. The 335i is a beast of a car that gives immense fun and that's why I love it but having power figures questionable from a diesel car is my type of thing. I have an E53 X5 3.0D it has the odd 170kw and 500nm. That car is honestly the most fun thing I've ever been in that's not a racecar. A simple 50% of the throttle gets you pulled into the seat, 75% throttle seems like you're flooring it but then you have 25% more! Best part about the diesels are the consumption the 10 year old high mileage X5 averages 10.5/100km and a tank gets us around 900km. I shit you not. Anyway enough about that I say if you want good consumption + decent power + reliability , get the 330D but if you want a weekend joyride then 335i it is! I have never seen a 335i with low consumption and that's not because they are heavy it's because the drivers fall deeply in love with the feeling of the car after it reaches peak boost. For that reason alone the 335i is more of a weekend car than a daily for me.

At around 170k you're most likely going to get an N54 335i. Which, as a daily, from personally experience, is a huge NO.

It makes an awesome weekend toy and is definitely the tuner's choice from the cars you've listed.

I'd steer clear from the 330i, especially if you're not at the coast. Forced induction ftw.

The winner for me, and this is something I really want as a daily, is the 330d. A well maintained, minimally modified 330d would be perfect for daily duty. It possesses a great balance of fuel efficiency and performance.

Many purists' biggest qualm with the 330d is the exhaust note/engine sound, but having heard Karsh's 330d at full tilt and Arbee's ex 330d, they really do sound good. The only time you will have to deal with the definitive tractor sound is on cold starts and idle.

I have a 320d and an M3. I never felt let down by the 320d, in fact the d actually kills the M3 at pull away. Granted, my d is tuned pretty heavy.

I keep telling the guys, I might sell the M3 but the 320d is a keeper. And for your budget you'll get one with all the bells and whistles and it'll look fresher.

Hey All! Its been a long time since I posted. The year end was rough with a lot of work.

I finally got the chance to look around again and found my perfect car.

Finance has been approved and I am taking delivery tomorrow.

I settled on Silver E90 320d msport, with 70k km on the clock. :D I am so excited! It even has a sun roof! :tiptoe:

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this thread!

I weighed the pros and cons of everything.

The msport kit makes a massive difference! So I decided to look at BMWs under 100k kms with a msport kit. Then I found my soon to be baby!

Look forward to the tractor!

Hi bro, do you have video links of your bmw 330d and a list of upgrades that you can send please? I've got a 2008 bmw 330D pre-lci automatic and wanting to get a good sound. Thinking about doing stage 1 software as its a daily. Not wanting to turn it into a race car. I just want a bit more power and a nice exhaust note without doing too much it going to the extreme. Thank you in advance. [email protected]
