Hi guys

I've come across a 2007 335i Auto with 93 000kms, just want to find out how reliable these are and about out of service plan costs. I have the option of a warranty for some[/quote] piece of mind.

Any feedback from personal experiance will be most welcome.

I can't really comment as mine still has 4 yrs & 11 months to go or 98400km before it expires.
But wasn't it voted motor of the year more than once?

Should be reliable, but now cost I wouldn't know.

The car is reliable up to a point. If you modify the car obviously things will go quicker but all in all if you don't nail the car all the time it will last.

I know of many people who've had no issue except for the recalls like hpfp, injectors and battery cable.

I've got 62k on mine and the clutch is still like new.

It all depends on how the car has been treated. I'd rather have one with motorplan just so you can sort out any issues.

I've had my 135i now for about 25000km out of motor plan.
Had no issues with the car but my mileage is lower.
This 25000km was with some spirited driving and a tune.

Go to BMW and get the service history of the car. You'll be able to see how much things like brakes and a major service costs. I have had my 2008 135i (still under MP) for a year and a half now, and it's at just under 70 000km. The only thing that broke in the 18 000km I had her was vacuum hose.

I think that after the HPFP issue was resolved the cars are pretty reliable. So far I plan to keep mine well out of MP.

Does anyone have any updates on reliability differences between the N54 and N55 engines? (I know of the HPFP issues on the N54).

I am looking for updates (yes in 2016) of 335 owners post motorplan - any details will be appreciated.

My MP expired in June 2014 and the car had 72 000km. Currently sitting on 103 000km and this has been my cost for the past two years:
  1. July 2014 - Inlet Camshaft & Head gasket R4000 - partly covered by BMW
  2. Sept 2014 Oil filter housing & solenoid clean - R1400
  3. Jul 2015 - Rear brakes, Oil Service, Oil filter housing, Tappet cover gasket, anti-freeze - R3450
  4. Sep 2015 - Waterpump, Thermostat - R1200 (BMW covered water pump & Hollard Warranty covered part thermostat & full towing)

I seem to get regular oil leaks and I can smell there is one again. Car also feels a bit "tired" and not as responsive as it use to be. Over the next couple of months I would like to do the following maintenance:
  1. Carbon clean
  2. Oil, filter, plugs, anti-freeze, brakes
  3. Alternator belt, pulleys and tensioners, 2 colleagues with trashed engines at about 130 000km when belt snapped and got sucked into engine
  4. Water bottle and pipes
  5. Vacuum pipes

I intend keeping this car for a whole so would rather do preventative maintenance than drive till something breaks.I do have the Hollard Cruise Warranty which costs me R469 a month. So far I have paid more in premiums than what I have claimed (total premiums = R11 200, total claims = R3500) . Would have been better to put money in unit trust or savings account.

Wow, thanks for such a comprehensive response.
Was it an N54 or N55 engine? Details of the vehicle please e.g. model, year, gearbox type steptronic / manual?

My car is a 2009 face-lift but has the N54 engine and steptronic gearbox. Gearbox was replaced under MP at about 65 000km.
