335i goes into limp mode

Was your temp sitting at 120 when the cars EML came on (went into Limp mode)?

This happened to my car. My buddy at BMW took the car in and had the camshaft inlet sensor and exhaust camshaft sensors replaced (if not mistaken) and the car runs cooler, run after run.

You also have a down pipe i see. do you have software in place overiding those two sensors?

after some hard driving my 335i N54 goes into limp mode. I then stop, switch off, and re start and its all good again.
any ideas what this could be?

Unfortunately be prepared to live with this problem. I had same experience with my E92 335i Coupe and now E93 335i Conv. Last E93 335i service, they changed:

-Exhaust camshaft
-vacuum hose
-camshaft adj unit

Car running smoothly so far but I will not be surprised when limp mode comes back.

One more comment.
There is an excellent fix that will make you smile broadly everyday.

You have the legendary N54
Get a JB4 , load a pump backend flash and you are sorted :fencelook:
No more limp modes!

Could even be a bad batch of fuel, If its not recurring - obviously. If I load my car without octane or meth running (Short shifting into 3rd and banging it) you will detonate and immediately the engine malfunction light comes on and shes in limp. Without coming to a stop I restart and carry on driving like normal. Ok this might not apply seeing as you aren't tuned, but if you got a properly bad batch of fuel, 93 maybe, it could be plausible. even 95 is below spec for our cars. :thumbdo: But there are also a myriad of other possibilities, this is just the easiest to rule out.

Mine has been like this for some time...

30FE code and no solutions so far

Just read the codes and have it checked. Limp mode could be from bad turbos to a fly in the filter :fencelook:

Hope you can trace the fault - codes read is the best start as mentioned.

Limp mode. Standard option on all 335is:rollsmile:

Or the car thinks, "hey, there might be speed cameras around this corner, let's just slow it down a bit..."

30FE is usually associated with a boost leak, check the dv's , charge pipe and boost canisters. Also look at boost solenoid...

Dont panic , All X35s have issues.

FIRST rule is never listen to hearsay. Reading codes is the only and best way to diagnose what a problem is.

Its a temperamental car and you will learn to live with it.

On a brighter note when you get the car running normal there will be this huge grin on your face.

I would highly recommend getting a JB unit and let the learning curve begin for yourself. You will be able to read/clear codes and know for yourself what is wrong with the car.

Check out the JB group here , we all went through what you currently experiencing. Group is very helpful and lots of knowledgeable persons to help you 24/7.
