We will be seeing a new
340i with new B58 motor
330i With new B48 Motor

Model name change for the re-engined F3x: 328i (N20) -> 330i (B48), 335i (N55) -> 340i (B58).

4-cyl B48 engine will have 330i/430i designation instead of 328i/428i
6-cyl B58 engine will have 340i/440i designation instead of 335i/435i.
PHEV F30 will come as 330e, not 328e.

Just one new model, but a pretty interesting one:

- X4 M40i, N55B30T0, manual and auto

No news on when this will happen.. but B58 was reported as a 2014 introduction.

But why would they want to do this I mean why rebadge the famous 335...

If you look through time every new 3 series came with a new high end badge:

Highest for E30 : 325i
Highest for E36 : 328i
Highest for E46 : 330i
Highest for E90 : 335i
Highest for F30 : 340i

I was actually surprised to see they didnt have a 340i at launch..

Well, they always launched their higher models later. IIRC, on launch/model intro, these were the models (in brackets):

Highest for E30 : 325i (High end at launch: 323i)
Highest for E36 : 328i (High end at launch: 325i)
Highest for E46 : 330i (High end at launch: 328i)
Highest for E90 : 335i (High end at launch: 330i)
Highest for F30 : 340i (High end at launch: 335i)

So according to this history, the F30 should get something around now and not at launch.

Good point!

It seems like BMW copied the Audi engine strategy, so they must have seen cost saving in production and efficiency gains to go the 4cylinder turbo route.

It will be odd to have a 330 as 4cylinder turbo.

No they didnt..

They are just replacing the current Nx range of engines with the Bx range of engines.. Current 328i is 4cyl turbo so just makes sense.. No increased efficiencies will be gained from moving from one 4cyl to another.. its still 4cyl turbo.. They doing it as the bx range of engines will increase the efficiency, thereby putting them ahead of the curve for emissions changes.. that and the fact the Nx range has been around for a while..

I wasn't referring directly to this change, I was referring to the change from "Glorious" straight six engines to 4pot turbos in general, in the lower to middle segment of the engine line up.

I mean why ditch what you have been good at for many years and copy others, and waste resources with the tin can I8?

BMW has been using 4 cylinders for a long time, continues to make them and continues to make glorius 6 cylinder motors as well. They are different but still great motors.

BMW are good at making motors - also suspensions, chassis, interiors, exterior designs and leaders in technological innovation - so nothing has changed. If anything they are making even better motors now.

Apologies to users for the off topic, but it needs to be answered - will not engage any further on off-topic post this.
The i8 is a phenomenal car, it is at the pinnacle of motoring innovation and the only other manufacturers to do so are the likes of very high end hyper cars (P1, 918, Laferrari). The i8 has been hailed as the future of cars, with every review being great. It is well ahead of competition and maintains BMW as the leaders in the automotive world. It also sets up the company to have a competitive advantage over others who are late entrants into the game. If you cannot see that - thats unfortunate for you. BMW has had to more than double its production of the i3 due to its immense success as well.
