hi Guys

please help, the rev counter i take it is electronic from m thoughts being the gearbox, is there a speed sensor or sensor on the gearbox that if not operating, the rev counter wil malfunction, problem is if i drive normally the rev counter works fine, if i floor it abit the rev counter drops to o rpm BUT there is no change in performance or anything, car runs 100%.

has anyone experienced this before, i think it could be a faulty sensor, not quite sure how it operates yet as im still learning, only had the car for 3 years and previous was a VW, now E46 330D 150kw 480nm beast 6sp f/l

thanks in advance

cheers

It should be 410nm. That fault you have with the cluster, I have no idea what causes that. Maybe when you floor it the g force shows a weak connection or something. Try taking it to red line with half throttle and see if it does it.

It only happens when i accelerate fast or when im in a hurry, then when i stop at a robot instead of the needle being on 700rpm idle it shows as if the car is off but no engine jerks or hesitations, when i accelerate again my revs are like 1000rpm below what it should it, ie driving 120 revs are at 1200rpm est. BUT if i turn the car off and back on again it is back to normal?

Could be a loose connection at the instrument cluster or a faulty instrument cluster

ok so the weekend that passed i took the cluster out, and stripped it, cleaned the parts etc and saw that the rings around the speedo and rev needles were sagging abit, it had the black prestick that was holding it, i removed all the sticky muk it and glued it down, left it to dry for a couple of hours whilst i cleaned and adjusted my handbrake and fitted it back in the car.

till now no problem at all, i think the rings sagged down to a point that the needle just just touched it causing it to mess around with the electronics as it couldnt set back to where it initially should be. well i hope its solved now.
