Has anybody got real world quarter mile times for the e36 328i? I've seen the bmw quoted numbers but nothing else really that helps me. This is literally for an argument's sake.

I'll racechrono mine tomorrow and let you know.

So far I have only done 1/8th mile in 10.5 seconds at 116kph.

My best 0-100kph so far is 7.6 seconds.

That is pretty good , fastest I got on my 325i E46 was 7.2 seconds .

Sad that the new BMW's will whip us with their turbo technology

Your car is running nice and healthy hey , just out of curiousity why is the diff between 0-60mph: 7.0sec and 0-100kph: 8.1sec a big 1.1seconds ? Do you have to change gears just before hundred ? Thanks

yeah, its a very inconveniant place they put the gear change :)

with the diff swap it will bring the gear change to just before 90.

I can get just over 100 in second gear, but i normally change before that, I havent put the M50 manifold in yet, so the car is choking up top.

CAR magazine did a full test on the 328i 5 speed manual in December 1995 and from that test the following performance figures.
Maximum speed - True=234km/h Speedo reading - 243km/h
Accelleration km/h - 0-60 = 3.59 secs
0-80 = 5.15 secs
0-100 = 7.19 secs
0-120 = 9.95 secs
1 km = 27.62 @ terminal speed 191.8 km/h
Overtaking Accelleration 3rd 4th 5th gear
40-60 2.94 4.44 6.13
60-80 2.82 4.14 5.28
80-100 2.53 4.02 5.58
100-120 2.88 4.14 5.28
120-140 3.42 4.08 6.18

Hope this helps.
I had one of them. Unreal performance especially on the highveld when most cars have a drop in performance this BM can out perform faster cars. Must have been the advanced Vanos on those engines.

Hi FR
that's impressive 1/4 mile time:thumbs: is this still standard or with the diff change..
We dont really see much 328's at killarney putting up times sadly but then again i dont trust their S2S times either:thumbdo:

OK, here's my RaceChrono from earlier today, and this is the best one. I've only done 3 runs so far, but here goes...

60 feet 2.3s 16 kph
1/8 mile 8.7s 113 kph
1/4 mile 14.0s 151 kph

0-60 mph 7.6s
0-100 kph 7.8s
0-100 mph 15.8s

80-120 kph 2.4s
60-160 kph 9.0s

some of these figures confuse me a bit, but maybe with some more runs, I'll get some more consistent numbers. :flyfun: Oh, and it was not a completely flat road, there was a mild downhill for me. Will need to find a nice piece of flat road and try again. RaceChrono stated I was on 8 satellites at the time.

something's off here...not saying it's impossible but u gotta have some decent mods to get a 1/4 mile time of 14.0s

@ speeddemon - agreed. Like I said, it wasn't completely flat, and I've only done three runs so far. I'll be finding a proper road this week, and getting some more runs in. I'm sure then we'll start seeing a more realistic picture... :=):

I'm in cape town ;)

gandalf, I think something went wrong there between 80-120, that is serious acceleration that yoy clocked there.

Freerider is at the coast .that is a good time , I would expect 328i to do 100 in about 8 seconds and 1/4 mile in 16 seconds . 1st to 2nd at 60 km/h , 2 to 3 at 100 , 3to 4 at 155 . so 1/4 mile still in 3rd , with 3.46 diff will then be in 4th at end .
