1: which 1 will you attach more value to...EVO1 with all aluminium panels or an EVO2 ?

2: does the shadowline also have the OAF number?

evo 1

and no

quite strange how within a few days this topic has been raised again

I had a discussion last week on the very same issue on another forum.

The bottom line is, there is nothing special about the evo II

why do you say that?
excuse my slight ignorance on the matter- just love those cars and always preferred the evo2.

Just do some research as to the differences between the evo I and the evo II and then see which car's pro's would be easier to transfer to the other car.

In otherwords, would it be easier to transfer the pro's of an evo I to an evo II or from an evo II to an evo I.

You will then realise it is easier to make an evo I an evo II than to make an evo II into an evo I.

Based on that I feel the evo I is the car I would attach more value to.

Evo 1's body number starts with the OAF Aluminum Fenders and bonnet
Normal Cast manifold
272 alpina cam
exactly the same head as a 325i except with larger valves
smaller AFM
Smaller Throttle body
compression of 10:4
sunroof , leather optional extra's
top speed of 234km
0 - 100 of 7.21 (tested with a full tank of fuel and testing equipment)
Larger Prestige panel ( black plastic panel between the rear tail lights)
Diffration on the Evo 1 is 3.64:1
145Kw

Evo 2's body number starts with the OEJ followed by some digits.
Steel Fenders / bonnet
Exhaust Branch
Larger intake valves compared to the Evo 1
Std sunroof / leather
revised diff ratio of 3.92:1.
535i adapted throttle
535i adapted intake
under tray lip
ride height lowered by 7 mm opposed to the Evo 1
Smaller Prestige panel ( black plastic panel between the rear tail lights)
155Kw

Both cars Evo and 2 , has 5 stud BBS, as std production wheels, both cars topped out at 234km, the evo2 was faster by 0.35 sec quicker to 0-100kph, and quicker through the mid range.

shadowline is 126Kw
4 stud
same motor as a 325i

i got this off another forum- guess there is some confusion about the 2-
can anyone confirm this quote?

sounds more or less correct

bottom line is that the performance handicap the evo I has can be easily overcome however it will be very difficult to source aluminium panels.

the valves are the same on all 325 and is motors the cam is a 276 cam
the tb on the evo 2 has a bigger butterfly its not a 535 tb
the intakes are the same
the afm is from a 535 on the evo 2 on evo 1 its the same as a 325 the airbox is steel vs plastic on the evo 1
the ecu has a different map and rev limiter was a bit higher
just a note the evo 2 were rated at 155kw but not all did it most were on par with the evo 1 in a straight race
some evo 2 did have ally panels bmw used the ones they had in stock up then just changed back to steel when the ally stuff ran out
there is a thread on http://www.e30clubsa.co.za/forum/index.php?
that has all the corect info on the is and even the 333 bmws

As a start, there is no EVO1 and EV02. The "Evo1" is the 325is with Ally panels etc. The "Evo2" is actually just the Evo.

That said, the Evo is generally known to be the better car. Handles better, is quicker etc. For me, the ORIGINAL 325is (Evo1 to most) is the more desirable car. The ally panels make it more exotic and special. I have a soft spot for BMW's lightweight cars. Think about the 3.0csl, 530mle, 325is, M3 csl. What a collection this would be!!

Both the Evo 1 and shadowline VIN numbers start with OAF.

And CLASSICMAN is correct about the evo thing. The first generation IS was called 325is and the second generation was called 325is evo HP.

Some interesting facts on the 325is...I own my 2nd one now and they have both been evo1... my 1st one had 1 steel door and 1 steel fender due to an accident with the previous owner and he could'nt find the original replacement parts. The one I recently acquired has all alluminium panels - took me a while but was looking for full alluminium...people used to look at me funny when rocking up with a magnet to check the panels...LOL
The reason for my initial question - people always seem to comment on the fact that evo2 is actually the better of the 2 and seem to downplay the evo1...just wanted to get more opinions on the 2.

Also rumour's got it only 500 were produced - any truth to this and was it 500 of the evo1 and 500 of the evo2 or a combined total of 500?

By the way, if there are any members out there with a CLEAN 325is (EVO1) or 333i, I'm looking to add to my collection. PM me if you are considering selling.
