:cursin: hi guys sum help needed, i have nt used my car for just over a week, and nw when i go in to take her for a quick spin ,she does not start
engine just cranks and cranks but does not start
,i have ruled out fuel pump issues aas the pump primes when key is set to ignition, and the engine is gettn fuel because u can smell fuel while it cranks, i do suspect the crank sensor as the car has been abit rough now and then ,any tips and tricks will be much appreciated as well as any1 who can assist with diagnotics scan to check for fault codes ,DURBAN

Battery... trust me!!

When my battery failed, EVERYTHING still worked, lights, windows, everything, but the car wouldn't crank and start...

Hey Scarab, try some good electro/contact cleaner spray on the electrical plugs & see if it helps?

Sounds like there's no 'spark' happening, causing the smell of fuel.

There is a good chance that it is the crank position sensor.

Have you checked for spark while cranking it? (When it doesn't want to start of course)

its what i suspect but without scaning the car and making sure it is the crank sensor ,i dont just want to replace parts and still be left with the problem, any tips or tricks on what to do to test if it is the crank sensor tho?

I was lucky with having two of the same cars standing around for me to swap parts around and isolate the problem. this was on an e34 though but the symptoms where very close to the same.

if you replaced your Crank sensor ,what did you pay for a new 1 , Martins car parts, has them for R595 but i need to know what the dealer charges

If I recall correct it was just over R1k from the dealers (again this was on an e34, so e46 prices might be different)
