Hi Guy's

hope  someone can  help if possible i bought a 320i auto e90 from a dealer in sandton and on the day of test drive there was a noise on the car and i was assured it is the aircon fan and it will be replaced if i decide to buy so i went ahead and bought the car she is a beauty by the way very well looked after i live in limpopo so  i went up on the friday to go and fetch the car and on driving back to nylstroom i could hear a distinct grinding metal type sound coming from the middle to rear of the vehicle and an oil smell on braking or quick acceleration i immedeately send the salesman a voice note to inform him of the burning oil smell and the grinding noise he said to bring back the car the monday so they can have it repaired, i took the car back 2 days later was told tappet cover gasket was replaced and oil leak is sorted and that car was going to a gearbox and diff specialist for the metal grinding noise and a week later the car is still at the dealer their excuse they can not pinpoint the metal grinding noise they recommend i take the car and if it breaks down they will fix it because then they will know what caused the noise, i told them i do not agree and asked them to take the car to the manufacturer for a diagnosis but am still waiting for a reply from them so the day i drove home i made 2 videos of the sound it is making so i was hoping someone have experienced this on their cars and could maybe give me an informed diagnosis of what they think could be making the noise because i don't want these guy's ripping out the diff or gearbox if it might just be a hangar bearing or something smaller.

hope someone can give me some advise will greatly appreciate it below is the videos i made

Not sure if this will help but in the middle of the car you have the 4 wheel bearings and the guilbo, aka prop shaft section.

Ask them or if you can jack the car, put it in neutral and spin the rear wheels see if you can mimic the noise. This would be the easiest to determine the noise as it seems the place where you bought it from is not smart people and are going to send you everywhere without troubleshooting the problem.

People these days, service is just not service anymore.

yeah if i had the car i would have strapped a go pro underneath to have a proper listen i think these guy's know it is the diff and just do not want to fork out the cash to replace, the more i research the more i am convinced the diff is the culprit what would that cost do you think<diff replacement>  and any recomendations up in gauteng area of competent people that can work on them ?

If I were you, I would give it back and walk away.

Not worth the hassle and these guys have already shown you their true colours - What else are they concealing?

You can also look for a BMW with an engine that has a better reputation than the N46 and save yourself further headache down the line.. Preferably a diesel/6 cylinder model.

not so simple the new consumer law doesn't only protect the consumer but also the dealer as long as they are making an effort to try and fix my concerns on the car i have no foot to stand on for canceling the deal  :dunnoanymore:
