Hey guys.

I mentioned about 6 months back that the turbo on my E46 320d is whining really heavily. it still hasnt died yet and I suspect it may be a cracked housing rather than bushes etc, but I am wanting to replace it under an aftermarket warranty I have before it blows and causes damage, or rather just replace it because the sound is really annoying..

I contacted tune tech and this is what I have from them

"Turbo job:
Recon turbo
Turbo gasket
Service
Breather valve
Flush intercooler and catalyst
Labour
R16500INcl"

This seems like a kak huis vol pennies for a recon turbo job to me.

Is this the going rate or is this a bit steep?

This is the sound it is making if you havent seen it yet

Get a new turbo and replace it yourself. Don't allow anybody to install a rebuilt turbo, I would not trust anybody that claims they can rebuild a VNT turbo - sure it can be done, I just would not trust someone else, unless I can watch them while they do it. Also make sure whoever does the replacement takes the turbo out the bottom. Out the top will end in tears.

Going to wait about two weeks before I have it changed, my dads 523i is at the panel beaters after hitting a guinea fowl and causing R18k damage so we are short on a car right now.

Once I know the turbo is healthy she is getting re-mapped. Then I will come and get some ice cream with you guys.

I assume that is R8250 and not R825 for the turbo from Turbo Direct. I paid R8250 plus vat for mine from them about 6 months ago (E39 530d)
