I'm also quite interested in doing a downpipe when I get my 320d. Is there a significant difference in whether the car is manual or automatic, concerning these performance upgrades?

Manual is probably a stronger box, but the autos aren't as weak as their predecessors and I haven't heard of anyone breaking their 320ds autobox. Just don't do hard launches from the robots and you'll be fine.

No point in my opinion of just doing downpipe and not a tune. Also if you do a downpipe on these cars you will need to turn the sensors off in software or get cat foolers but speak to your exhaust shop if you dont want to tune the car as I have no idea about them.

You need to do software with the downpipe. And then you will get alot more that 5HP

Yip recommend you DP with Software. DP alone will not satisfy your thurst for power and frankly to pay that amount of money for 5HP is simply not worth it.

DieselFan have u done sw on yours? Which, mods have u done? Reliability?

I have done DP and SW, I have done 20 000kms+ and had the tune on for about a year I think.

Everything's been great I have only had my oil breather changed at 90 000kms (which is a maintenance item) my car is on 93k kms now. And had all the boost seals replaced as there was oil leaking from one of the seals as the oil breather was blocked. I changed all of them as it was going to get stripped anyway.

I will also be doing my 330d as soon as I can find a 6speed for it. The strippers here say they are getting one soon. So we'll see.

I also want to get uprated intercoolers for both of them, as I experience what I think was heat soak on a long trip recently

Promotec mentioned a 150kw option?

My car makes about 150kw and 420nms and stock it is 120kw and 350nms (I think).

Is this what you're asking?

I see you're in cape town, if you want to give my car a spin you're welcome to, that will help you make your mind up.

Ok back to topic. I been looking at this for some time and here are some basic mods to get some HP out of your diesel.

1 De-cat
2 Down pipe
3 free flow exhaust
4 330d turbo (heard this is a straight bolt on )
5 mechanical fan replacement to electric ( guys that done this mod swear you get better response on throttle)
6 bigger inter cooler
7 software

That's the mods that i am planing to do in that order.

If you do 330d turbo I'm pretty sure you'll need to do software to make your car driveable... I'd start with Decat Down Pipe and Software and move from there... But thats just me :=):

All depending how much you wanna spend..... this is what is actually possible:

2007 - 2008 models are 130KW / 350Nm std

+ Promotec Performance Software
+ Downpipe (deDPF)
+ bigger Intercooler
+ freeflow exhaust

180KW / 500Nm after mods

Hi BUdd,
so i just learnt my E90 2011 320d's ECU is an F-type model's ECU
which means it cannot be read via the port...:skit:
when trying to bench flash it goes into protection mode,
After sorting this out....can you refer me to someone who can assist?
i have already done a Decat/Downpipe...

thanks

So the f30 ecu can still not be read? Any updates to this?

Well i just got a call today from my software guy that my car's ECU is still blocked and so a replacement ECU has been located and will be configured to my car...
My understanding is the ECU is being replaced and i posed the ? to him if the replacement ECU can be read after configuration via the port, if it cant then im afraid we cant do a software upgrade.
any advice's?

I read on a few forums that the 320d auto box can handle 400nm so if i remap and it goes above that will it damage the gearbox
