Thanks for the heads up on the pulley, it is R3.6k excluding VAT.

Just called BMW now and they have a special on the pulley and bolts as a kit for R4.4k (including VAT) for the next few weeks. Just ordered one for myself.

Does anyone have the part number for the belt? Apparently there are 2 belts..

The kit price is abit strange, when I bought the bolts from Auto Alpina Boksburg last year they were only about R80 each. Either way for 4400 that's a great deal on the original part.

Not sure of the situation now but i struggled to find stock at GW last year.

@shark111, at the price, I would rather buy it and keep it stashed away until it is needed.. Mine has very fine, small cracks at 130k, but given how fast they deteriorate, safer just to have the spare ready. They have to be special ordered so that's another delay.

Definitely agree on going OEM especially given the price. Did you replace your vbelt as well?

Yeah my bro is only @80k but I told him to buy it and keep it too.

Mine also had those smaller cracks, I monitored it from 134k and decided to change it at 150k as I could feel a vibration.

I changed the vbelt too, bought a continental belt from GW.

I have had mine for 2 years now, bought it on 141k and about to hit 200k. this is what was done to mine:

1) 160 000km - oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, brake pads front and rear
2) 170 000km - oil, oil filter, transmission service, vibration dampener
3) 180 000km - oil, oil filter, egr clean, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel controller module, MAF sensor
4) 190 000km - oil, oil filter, heater on fuel filter, air filter, New intake

so in know this sounds like a lot that was done, however there is a history. I had an issue where the car would loose power and no be able to move. so a lot of the parts may have been unnecessary, however it was all part of the testing process and working on what fault codes where being given at the time and glad that all parts are OEM. the last 10 000km have been a dream though. drove from cape town to jhb with a full boot, back seat, front seat and pulled a fully loaded 5ft trailer with nose cone and averaged 7.0l/100km.

To be honest i thought I could feel it on accelaration between 80-120km/h from the body, but I'm no expert so It could be something else causing that, I just made the link and since it had the cracks anyway changed it to be safe.

i didn't feel any vibration, just got a burning smell and saw some smoke, looked inside the engine bay and saw bits of rubber and pieces missing from the vibration dampener.

I've had my e90 for a few months now and event though I've driven it so hard since Ive had it and it just takes it. Having said that, you should definitely have a reliable mechanic to whom you can take the car if small things come up.

So mine use to do the same. If you look underneath the dash on the drivers side, remove the first plastic panel and you'll see a rubber boot around the steering column, take Q20 with the extended nozzle and insert it between the column and the boot, spray a bit in there and turn the wheel from lock to lock. Repeat if necessary.

Hope this helps, worked for me.

I have a brother who knows how to pull everything through his arse! All his previous cars suffered tremendously under his ownership with them. Then he purchased a 2005 320d about 10 years ago and I'm actually astounded that it's still going. The car had about 95 000km on the clock and he sent me a pic recently of the odo .........get this ........577 000km!!!!!
I couldn't believe it and he still gets 4.9 L/100KM on the open road. Incredible!!
Apart from services, battery and a vibration damper , oh yes and a side shaft which separated during a handbrake turn , the car is still delivering exemplary service after all these years. I have utmost respect for the 320d!

That is incredible man! We need a thread and pics of this car. Proper testament to the reliability one can expect from a 320d!
