hey all.somebody i know has a 320d e46 with 100 000 kms on the clock.his turbo kaked recently and he got a new one.but now when he starts the car she pisses oil out the exhaust,if u remove the dipstick out that hole aswell.he says the car easily looses 5l oil within minutes....what could the prob be?could the engine be stuffed or could it be oil feed and return probs or what?

wow, I would not be happy with that. I suggest he takes it back to where they did the turbo re-install.

if it starts up normally, then I think its more related to the turbo not the motor.

I would have a look at the installer first

hmmm... getting oil in the exhaust... could be Top Gasket although I don't think top gasket would cause it to be that bad, but they only did the turbo.

I don't know to much about the diesels, but oil won't just go anywhere and out on it's own. It could be feed problems where something might have been connected wrong (Which would be my guess), but only way you'll know for sure is if someone with good knowledge takes a look.

If the car was fine before the turbo went and is now broken after new turbo, then the people who did the turbo did something wrong.

Common problem on BMW diesel....oil breather pipe is clogged! Pressure has nowhere to go, so it builds up in the crank case, pushing oil out into funny places! He probably uses Castrol.... Replace breather and see if it fixes the problem! BMW calls it "crank case ventilation system"

That's why I'm so against the use of Castrol in my car! I've said it before and I've seen what it does to a car's engine run on Castrol. I must specify that, apparently it is only straight forward GTX that causes heavy deposits. Everyone who take their cars to a stealer, should check what oil was used in their car, I'm sure some of the stealers just pump straight forward "can of the best" (yechh!) from a 45 gallon drum into any car, no matter what. BMW "specifies" Castrol, so they use Castrol, but is it the right one for your car??? Might be better off using Castor oil!

apparently in the M if you use anything other than castrol TWS 10W60, and something happens to your motor, they will not cover it under motorplan????

BMW dealerships probably wouldnt know the difference if you where using orange juice in your engine

The problem is, if you take your car to the stealership for a service, who knows what kak they pour into your engine? The oil change is usually an apprentice, minimum wage, grease monkey's job, so what does he care, as long as it's oil!

More worrying aswell is that if they dont get to the car soon enough and it has time to cool down, I dont think they will properly warm it up before changing the oil...basically meaning you get a 'cold' oil change :nono:

Exactly! I'm a pain in the a$$ when it comes to my cars and the workshop I use, know that. I also supply my own oil and filters and I want the old ones back, that way I know that the car was serviced correctly! The problem with motorplan is that the machies don't give a sh1t, because if the car breaks down, motorplan will cover it! That's if you can get an appointment!!!!
