Just replaced my clutch as the thrust bearing making noise on depress & release -on start up same prob occuring - now told it could be the dmf apparantly this is a common prob? one can get a single solid flywheel to replace dmf - anyone had experience on this ? - surely if dmf was fault then it would judder / vibrate ?

Why do you replace the clutch if the thrust bearing is making a noise? And if the noise is still there after it has been replaced maybe it is something else. How bad is the noise as it is known for there to be some slight "clattering" noise coming from the gearbox.

Makes sense from the work point of view - not sure how similar the mechanicals are for the petrol and diesel E90 gearboxes, but I know that on the petrol models the release bearing is made of some sort of plastic material which can easily give problems. Apparently they simply (like most release bearings but I reckon in a worse way) do not like it if you ride the clutch. Even when sitting at a robot I sit in neutral with my foot completely off the clutch - for good measure I don't even rest my hand on the gear lever. The release bearing on my 330i has always been a bit noisy when idling and clutch out - a very subtle rattle most noticeable when in a confined space like our garage.

There have actually been a few threads here dealing with various clutch replacement issues on the E90 - so might be worth looking through and get some feedback from those members.

to get a solid flywheel made will cost you about the same as a DMF so rather go for the DMF...

is it making the same noise it made before?

took box out this morning and aligned the 2 x flywheels, there is play of about 20mm each way - replacing as this also gives the impression that the release bearing is at fault, R2700 for LUK DMF not to bad

Hi there, did you pay R2700.00 for the Flywheel or just the bearing. 320d is making the same noise.

And can you please tell me were you got it ?
