320d Cold starting problem

I have trouble starting my car (2008 320d Auto) in the mornings or when it has been standing a few hours. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong - I only got it last week.

I insert the key, push brake pedal and then start button - then it starts if warm. When it is cold nothing happen (the starter does not turn).

I know the glow-plugs need to warm up when cold. Nowhere in the owner's manual does it say anything about warming up the glow-plugs - could someone please tell me what the correct procedure is when it is cold - or is there maybe something wrong with my car??

Could be the glow plug. Can you take the car to a reputable place for a check up?

The car may or may not have stored a fault code. Dont spend money on a code reader which may cost you more then taking the car to a dealership of some kind.

If it is a glow-plug would the starter not at least engage? - Or could it be that the car "sees" the glow-plug is not working and refuse to engage the starter?

Regarding the code reader - I don't mind spending money on it, I've just started another thread enquiring on where I can buy a programming cable (which I suppose can also read codes).
