318Ti Cylinder head

Hi Guys

So here is my story in a nutshell. Bought a 318Ti 15 December 2012 with 119k on the clock. Drove it for two days started to misfire. Been to a number of mechanics ever since, all costs covered by dealer(he is actually genuinely trying to sort it out) and i was given a piece of kaka to drive so long(a Corsa Lite)

BMW refused to diagnose as there are too many variables that mite cause it. Coils was changed, injectors and wiring tested. They suspected timing chain.

About three days ago they found that "one cam belt snapped"(how many are there???). This resulted in a damaged cylinder head. Now they busy fitting new cylinder head(still all costs covered by dealer).

I havnt driven or even seen the car for 3 weeks, dunno how i should approach the situation since im getting a brand new cylinder head. Is this a yah or nay???

its a timing chain, no cam belt...

I just replaced my cylinder head on my BMW M3. It drives like a dream now, so be positive, if they are genuinly trying to sort you out, then you shouldn't be too worried. What I suggest, is that you do some homework on the cylinder head, the timing chain, the part numbers, so that when you go meet these guys, you know if they are bullshitting you or not.

I did all my research on the M3 S54 engine and I knew exactly what the car needed and didn't... so I was able to dictate what needed to be changed and if it was in good working order or not, instead of just taking someone's word for it.

Do the homework, you will be greatly surprised at how easy these engines are to understand.

Sounds like you are always going to have engine problems, pull out the sale and get a six cylinder model. Those n42 engines are so problematic that I prefer not to work on them.

new cylinder head fitted. They swung it last night to make sure for oil pressure and to check the compression.
So doing the final cam and timing settings now...APPARENTLY.

Was promised to get car back by Saturday only.

So the head was fitted. Sadly im still waiting for my car as the lifters were noisy. This is the mail i got today:

"The noisy lifters problem was low oil pressure, so had to get another oil pump which we have just managed to find and are getting. To get to the pump meant that the front suspension needed to be lowered in order to get the sump off.
They will be reassembling it by this afternoon."

Is this legit?
